Luckily they’re the same thing so it really makes no odds. All dream moves from Spurs will equal more money, so it’s not an either/or

My point is people keep saying oh just offer him more money, it's irrelevant because we can offer him more than Madrid but if it's his dream to go to Madrid he's not accepting the offer no matter how much extra money is put in-front of him. You only have to look at him turning down Man City when he signed for us as evidence that it's not money that he values, he has said he has an idea of how he wants his career to go. I know it's hard for some people to believe but not every decision in peoples lives is decided on how much money they'll make. if he goes to Madrid and earns more money then that'll be an added bonus to his primary target of fulfilling a dream.

But we can’t offer him more than Real. To suggest we can or would is nonsense. I agree with your point broadly, but this invented scenario where we offer more wages than Real will never, ever occur so it’s pure fantasy

Yeah I'm more just taking peoples logic of "just put a big contract in-front of him" to it's highest possible conclusion to show that it's irrelevant no matter the financials involved.

I remember an interview with him after we signed him where he was asked about turning down bigger clubs to come to us.
He said something along the lines of "at this stage of my career i felt Tottenham is the right club to go to". That always implied he had a career plan, the fact he has not yet signed a new deal may well mean he now wants to do what he feels is best for the next stage in his development/career.

Hopefully that is not the case and we will have him for a few more years yet.

We gave kane a contract of up to £300k a week. Dele and son signed new contracts of £150k a week. These aren't small sums.

Didn't say they were, or that we should pay more. But we don't pay top dollar. That's reality.

Kane doesn't get anywhere near that basic, he gets lots and lots of add-ons that are entirely performance related – not something that most players would accept and we wouldn't give anywhere near that to anyone else.

Luke Shaw is on £150k at Man Utd.

And modric is on £180k a week at madrid. Both less than kanes basic pay of £200k a week. I belive bale is the only player at madrid that has a higher basic wage than kane.

Kane is an exceptional case, and not the player we were discussing. 12 of them are on more than Eriksen.

If Real want to buy Eriksen, they'll be offering him 200k. They'll have to – Modric was signed years ago and has now had incremental increases, that is not the same as buying someone in (Kroos is on more than Modric, for example, despite being their two years less and not being as influential). Contracts are defined by the circumstances and Bale is a great example – they had to pay that to bring him in, and then the contract cannot be altered.

I don't think Spurs would pay Eriksen 200k (and in reality we'd have to best Real to have a chance of keeping him, so we're talking 250k really, more than Kane's basic, though Real could easily go to that too). But yeah if we did, he'd clearly still leave, so that point then becomes valid.

We have just given dele and son contracts of £150k. Why wouldn't we offer eriksen similar or more?

The reason erikesen is on less is because he has not signed a new contract. Toby is the same, if he had signed a new contract would be on more than £100k a week.

We offer decent wages. Not outrageous but not at all shit. We are competitive with some of the biggest clubs in the world, just not the oil clubs or utd.

Well, if you're going to play that game you could just as easily ask why *would* we offer him more?

Bar Kane, who is an exceptional case, £150k has proven to be our top whack, with Dele only signing six months ago. Toby reportedly wants £180k and we won't pay more than £130k, and he's one of the best defenders in the league.

I've never said we don't offer decent wages, or that they're shit, or that we're not competitive. And Real are not an oil club or Utd.

Van Dijk is the highest paid defender in the PL, and he's on £180k p/w.

The likes of Kompany, Otamendi & Luis, who are all at oil rich clubs with owners who couldn't give a shit about money, yet all still earn £120k p/w.

We (supposedly) offered Alderweireld more than all of the last 3 I just mentioned, and he (or his agent) turned it down.

If all of the above is true, we've been more than fair to him & made him a perfectly competitive & acceptable offer.
