Erik Lamela was bought for a club record £26m and he's barely had a kick...

There are clips on YouTube of Erik Lamela slaloming his way past defences in the shirts of River Plate and Roma before he rifles the ball into the top corner.

If Lamela really was injured on arrival that would explain a lot. I am so fed up, however, of hearing about how horrible our signings have performed this season and how we wasted 100 million. The fact is that we signed too many young, talented players that were always going to struggle in their first season(s). With the right manager and the right system I believe those players are good enough to form the backbone of a new Spurs team next season.
Missing out on CL by a whisker (again) and selling Bale was to me the end of a great little era in which we flirted with the big time. The managerial changes have ruined our season, but we are now building to make a new charge and push for the CL places again. The players we brought in are good enough for that push - IF managed by the right man and IF we bolster our squad in the right areas. It will take time, though. I will be more than satisfied if we get a good manager like FDB who manages to get our new signings up and running next season, give us a real gameplan, and a bit of stability. It will probably be too soon to mount a real top four challenge next term - I'd take steady progress, another 5th or 6th place finish and hopefully a cup win to prepare us for the big stage again.

This.

We're too quick at writing individuals off. I understand, particularly in the case of Lamela, the price tag means people expected him to hit the ground running. And, perhaps, as a club they need to look at how they help players to get used to playing in England.

However, he is young, playing in a new league, with a new culture and environment to get used to, not to mention the language. We need to give him, and all of the new players, time to settle.

I think it's too soon to rule the £100m as a waste.
Eriksen has looked a very astute signing.
Chiriches has looked tidy, and will definitely benefit from the experience going into a second season, since he is still young and playing in a foreign league for the first time.
Capoue early on looked like the one that came in under the radar to be the brightest signing. A true powerhouse holding midfielder to compete or cover Sandro. Injury, played out of position, then a fall out with the manager have stunted his progress, not a lack of ability.
Chadli, suffered from being shifted in and out of the team, shifted in position too, LW, AM, RW. But as the season has worn on, I actually think he's starting to look like he's settling, and could be a useful asset.
Paulinho, started ok, got injured, fell out of favour, then got back in, and for all his drifting in and out of selection, still managed a steady goal record. With the right system and players around him, he could indeed be the Lampardesque goal threat he was hyped as.
Soldado, just hasn't settled. I have noticed improvements in his general play, and with the right service I'm sure his goals will return, his historical record shows he is reliably lethal.
Lamela, I really haven't seen enough to comment. Just feel sorry for the lad. Young kid, doesn't speak the language, signed up by the DoF, but seemingly not to fancied by the manager. Quite a turbulent season for the club, can't be easy to settle.

I'm actually amazed the Mail have produced a piece like this - not actually trying to end the kid's career and detailing the reasons why this season's been so tough for him.

Also today they have their season review article, and Neil Ashton (he of the war of words with AVB) has earmarked Lamela as his one to watch next season and reckon's he'll be our player of the year. I hope he's right, becaue if we waste this kids talent we shouldn't be allowed to buy a player ever again.

If he was injured then this should have been picked up in the medical. He should not have been signed with a back injury!

So was he £26m or £30m? They dont seem very sure lol.
I'll say this for Lamela, I bet he's chomping at the bit to start next season with a flyer.
So many unknown variables at the moment but I do believe with the right man in charge we have the squad to make a good go of it. Provided we dont waste too much energy on the Europa piss cup. With Liverpool, Chelsea, Citae, Arsenal and Man U all strengthening its gonna take a massive improvement and a major balls up by 2 of those for a top 4 finish

For that money he shouldnt have been signed full stop. Thats proven world class money not may come good money. (Fellani lol)
Baldini from Roma. Lamela from Roma. Im sure there were no back handers involved. Cough.,;)

Remember when Modric was la ligas worst signing? That's turning out ok!
Thats because most football fans, myself included, are fickle, opinionated, dont really know what they're on about but believe they do with 100% conviction. And change said opinion more often than they change their pants and twice as fast.
We are f in funny though lol (y)

Edit- I'll be the first to be singing his praises if he comes good and saying how I said he was worth every penny soon as we got him lol.

Yep.
I didn't say I agreed with what their said.
Just thought it was funny how one minute they're saying dont write him off, then saying he's the worst signing.

when u sign a player for a mil like Holbty. Thats when u use the terms like "he will come good" etc. ie Gio Do Santos... Not 30 Mil. We are not Real Madrid. we are not in the Champions League every year.. Ps Ronaldinho signed for Barca from PSG for 23 Mill. When he was already a World Champion and the face of Nike Football. Lamela is the worst piece of business ive seen the club do in years.. We will never get half our money back.. I would not give Baldini money for a cup of tea.

Shouldn't really get annoyed by the Mail, I suppose - it's like complaining that the sea is wet.

The article points out that he's been injured and then says he hasn't played enough... is he supposed to have played when injured?

Players do get injured and spend a long time out - Gareth Bale is one example of someone who has come through the same - what happened to him anyway?

No guarantees that he'll be great for us - but let's criticise him for what he does when fit and after a proper pre-season. There's no way anyone can write him off yet.

I'm not a million miles away from you, but....
Ronaldinho was older, 23m then was about 80m in today's money and he wasn't injured all the time.

I'll only write lamela off when a decent coach can't get a fit version of him playing regularly and well.
