Three games, three wins. Its taken us nearly fifty years to repeat that opening sequence. The last time we did that we won the Double. Now I have to be careful here because last time I mentioned these facts in a thoughtful and sensitive piece entitled provocatively 'Can we win the league this year? I stirred up a mini hornets' nest of people accusing me of selling the club down the river and of having the intelligence of a lobotomised wood louse.

Now the more astute amongst you will have noticed the question mark which means its a question. Its not a prediction. So to make it clear: we certainly could but we probably won't. There, relax everyone.

However I refuse to be silenced on the matter in case other fans are insulted or put out. Nor do I believe that Bloggers or fan sites can affect the course of the season. I am not setting the club up for a fall, though I might be setting myself up for one.

Get a grip people; if you can't stand the heat support W. Ham or somebody. Three games in and we are top of the league. I love it and have waited too long for a start like this not to enjoy it and I'm going to make the most of it. That we are top of the league is a statement of fact not a prediction about how the season might end.

Frankly I don't care how other fans view us, I can live with it whatever they think. We go over the top; I admit it. We have delusions of grandeur; I admit it. We go on about the Glory (I think he means Glory, Glory - Geez) Days; I admit it. But we did have them and have something to go over the top about. And now we've made a good, no perfect, start and I can look the supporters of other teams in the eye without blinking rather than avoiding eye contact like last year. And I love it.

Can it all go wrong? Think Hull last year. Of course it can. But let's paint that bridge when it turns into a different kettle of fish. Could our injury problems be our Achilles heel? Of course they could and if Palacios, Modric or Lennon were to be added to the list or Ledley not recover even to play one game a week we might struggle.

But enjoy the moment. No don't just enjoy it, revel in it, embrace it, wallow in it like a hippo in mud, because as you many keep telling me it could be snatched away in an instant; at home to Birmingham next week for example. Now not even you faint hearts believe that. In war we are told that 'loose talk cost lives' but I don't believe that the frantic scribblings of Tottenham Bloggers like myself will cost us points.

We didn't play as well today: Keane dropped too deep and Defoe was left isolated. Huddlestone wasn't the creative force he has been and Modric wasted more passes than normal and one excellent scoring chance from a Lennon cross. We didn't get the ball out wide to Lennon often enough. We were unsettled by Cole's strength. But we went a goal down and battled back to win away from home.

Admittedly Lennon's resulted from the full backs lack of control and Defoe's from large wads of money in brown envelopes. What other explanation can there be for Cole's through ball to Defoe? That's a joke by the way. Its called a lucky break, the run of the ball or whatever and we took advantage of it which we need to do if we are going to make progress this year. Make progress I repeat, not win the league.

So don't go around apologising for making a good start, adopting a posture of false humility. Why should we? There's plenty who will give us grief if and when we do slip up. In the meantime enjoy, have a nice day and yes thank you everything is fine and keep the change.

I would point to our slightly off performance today to being down to being the 3rd game in a week and in considerable heat so that's not too much to worry about.

However, without wanting to sound negative cos I'm absolutely not, what we should remember is that each of the 3 games we've won so far this season we also won last season so even though has been considerable improvement in performance we cannot get too carried away.

Birmingham at home next in the league, we need to meet expectations here and win that to keep us top but more importantly just to keep the run going as the confidence will simply continue to build for games against Man Utd and Chelsea to follow.

If someone said we would have 9 points after our first six games, including Manure, Chelsea, Liverpool, and away at West Ham, would have bit their arm off.

Yesterday was a massive test a hard test Westham cant play the football we play, but they play brute force and are good in the final third and just scap in the middle of the park they have a good defence. They had a weeks rest on us and wanted it badly.

We won :)

NOne of my Westham mates have made it in to work today! :)

I was born in the double season, so its the best start i have known and i will be making the most of it for sure.
3 wins on the trot and we are sitting pretty, if the Cockerel can't crow from such lofty heights when can it?

I for one don't give a toss what other fans may say, they knocked us last season with our worst start since the Titanic sunk and they will ridicule us while we are top of the tree, so say it loud and say it proud...................We are top of the League.

There are plenty of postives and plenty of reasons to be cautious. Its a good mix. I dont want people bigging us up simply because they want to jump on us when we fall.

If we can be consistent, as we were at the back end of last season, we will do well. Still plenty of tests to come but we look to have a very good base, and if we can get a win on saturday then its an excellent start.

It's nice up here, isn't it? Like one of the posts said - we have a lot of other clubs' fans laughing at us if we were bottom of the prem - so let's enjoy these moments for the good times they are.

And if anyone of you be feeling unusual or queasy - you might want to ask your Doctor about altitude sickness...

I remember us on top during the Hoddle era and thinking "We are back".

I won't fall into the same trap again, and even rolled out the glad to get the three points line yesterday.

Saying the the table makes pleasant reading (especially when there is a Playboy open on it, but I digress) and I intend to enjoy the moment while it is here.

Statistically speaking, every toss of a coin is a 50:50. Even if you’ve thrown 9 ‘heads’ in a row, it’s an equal chance the tenth will be a ‘heads’ too. But if you calculate the odds up front, the chances of throwing 10 ‘heads’ in a row are miniscule.

I think it’s the same with football, although the result is obviously slightly more predictable than the toss of a coin. If a couple of decisions or moments had gone against us against Liverpool and West ham (and even Hull in the first half), we could easily have only got 1 or 0 points from each match. But we have all 9. Three ‘heads’ in a row.

We have Birmingham, Man United, Chelsea and Burnley to come next. Frankly, they’re all winnable on a given day, if we get a bit of luck. They’re also all losable if we don’t. We probably won’t win all 4, but there’s no reason we can’t.

That’s the thing about winning the league (or even coming 4th). And it’s a mentality thing that our teams have been missing for most of the 48 years I’ve been supporting my beloved. We sometimes go on runs of victories – hence we win cups – and then sequences of defeats. But mostly our results are random, unpredictable sequences.

For me the biggest challenge this 2009 Spurs team and squad have to cope with is history. Chelsea have 9 points too. The difference nowadays is Chelsea ‘expected’ to win all three games. United lose 1-0 to Burnley but still ‘expect’ to win the next 10. But our boys already have to cope with the jokes about us being top, and that will only intensify if we are still up there in November. Let’s face it, every talking head, every other team, every opposition fan ‘expects’ us to bottle it eventually.

Frankly, I don’t think we’ll win the Premiership this Season. I don’t think we’ll win enough points. But when I look at each single match in isolation, I see no insurmountable reason we can’t win it. And, for now, that’s a feeling I can really enjoy !

What has amused me is looking at the table and starting in the middle and then scanning down before finally actually remembering and looking to the top. Habit - then happiness!

I can't believe that I have supported Spurs since 1977 and this is the first time we have won the first three games! I had never noticed. Anyway I am really pleased to see the positive thoughts on here. I have been annoyed by the negative reactions to such a great start. You'd think it was a bad thing to have such a successful opening week. So well done guys. Keep it up. Lets enjoy it!

I read somewhere on SC that the last time we had three wins in a row was the 1961/2 season when we went on to win the league. I was 12 years old then and I remember it well. I'm now 60, meaning we're talking about 48 years ago !!!!!!!!! J.F.C.
Although we've done OK in the odd cup, basically we've been mid table mediocrity for almost 1/2 a century !!!!!!!
Thank you 'Arry for restoring our pride.
Hopefully you'll be given time by our money men, particularly D.L. to go on and prove your a Hotspur great, just like Billy Nick.

Lets not forget that this was the third game in 7 days so to get all 9 points is a major sep forward for us.

You're right we did beat those three teams last year but the manner of the wins as you say was different. Particularly in the Liverpool game. But the crucial thing is that these were consecutive wins, two away from home, and the first three games of the season giving us confidence and 'momentum'.

Krafty
Again a settled team and a carry on of good form from last season is the thing that gives me more positives than negatives. It will be interesting to see the team against Doncaster. (Button, Naughton, Hutton,Bentley, Pavlyuchenko, Chimbonda, Livermore, Bostock could all play for me)
The first team need a rest before the weekend and these players should be good enough in any case.

We're clearly going to win the league by some considerable margin imo. In fact, I suggest we propose to the EPL that we all just call it quits now, and they present us with the trophy at 3 today instead of going through the motions of wiining the remaining games. Clubs could expect a big reduction on their insurance premiums, and it would leave the players a lot fresher for next season.
