I have noticed how pessimistic people are and I am struggling to understand why?

We have a battle for third ongoing with our arch rivals and about to play an FA Cup semi final against another London rival.

Our team play good passing attractive attacking football, so why not sit back and enjoy the climax to what has been our best season for God knows how long.

Anybody else going to enjoy it with me?

I don't think we're playing good passing football. Our midfield is very static and our passing is very stop start. I will enjoy the run in, however I will be gutted if we get anything less than 4th.

Its the fear that all that would dissapear if we dont make fourth, the worry of our best players joining the manager out the door setting us back 4 or 5 years.

Unfortunatly we are not liverpool or chelsea in that one season without champions league wouldn't kill them, they have earned themselves a years grace(2 in pools case). We havent yet so its imperitive we dont miss out this year.

Everone wants to be confident but for most the fear out weights it

There has to be an element of living in the moment surely. Why spend your time worrying about players leaving when it is very unlikely to happen. DL has them on long contracts for a reason.

The point I am making is that if you worry what might happen you can never enjoy what is happening. I accept I am a glass half full type of guy but all this pessimism is strange to me.

Bet Liverpool fans would love to be in a battle for third. Man City have Fuck all to look forward to now and Arsenal only have the battle for third. Chelsea and Spurs fans have more to look forward to than any other team in the league, yet I bet all they are worried about is fourth.

I'm 49, so remember football before fourth was the be all and end all but still surely we should be enjoying the moment.

Agree but its hard to when we were 10pts clear of the scum.

We are in a good psition though so yeah we do need to get behind them coz if we dont get 4th or higher we can say bye bye to so many of our best players.

Its shit or bust.

If you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, ignore the fact we had 3rd sewn up and lost a sizeable lead

We're still 4th and trading blow for blow for 3rd

We're still in the Semi final of the FA cup

Remember we've only ever finished fourth once EVER since the PL was founded and are well placed to equal that.

Remember that our target was fourth and even though we looked like exceeding it with ease earlier in the season we are still very much on course to achieve our goal and on top of that could have an FA cup final to enjoy too.

We're not out of the race for third and we are in relative control of the race for fourth, much more so than the year we actually won that particular race when we were basically behind City in the race until the penultimate game of the season.

I agree we should forget all the doom and gloom and the point less what if's and concentrate on what is still our best season to this date ever (we've never been so well placed at this stage in the PL and certainly not with an FA cup run still going......yes I just remembered the Jol year when we were fourth until last game lol)

The run in is full of winnable games and we have what it takes to do it, we should be enjoying the roller-coaster that is the Spurs run in. Hopefully there will be more highs than lows

I enjoyed falling when I did a bunjy, I think I was too stupid to consider the potential danger......just as I am too stupid to consider us missing out on fourth now ;)

I agree with the OP.
Don't forget, the Goons have to play Chelsea, and Chelsea have to play Newcastle.
If the Goons in, it makes it highly unlikely that we won't finish 4th.
If Chelsea win and we do too, they will be no closer, but it strengthens our hand for 3rd.
A draw does both.

And that is before even considering the Chelsea/Newcastle ramifications.

This is all good and well but when you have been 3rd for 4 months and now are in danger of finishing 6th....its quite normal to be tense and wound up

But, we've now switched to "not expected to do it". That's our best position.

We're always rubbish when people expect us to do well. :)

I can't say I'm enjoying the run-in right now, not with the way recent results have gone. That said I whole heartedly believe if we can't manage to be cheering out team off the pitch win, lose or draw; we should at the very least not be booing them. Save all the outrage for after the Fulham game if you think it's warranted but doing it now is totally counter-productive.

Here are a few reasons:
1. We don't have a battle for third. Third is gone, as - probably - has fourth. We are in a 'battle' to avoid finishing lower than sixth.
2. We don't play attractive, flowing football. We used to. Now we play slow, stilted possession football that goes nowhere quickly and usually ends with a backpass to the keeper who hoofs it long; at which point the other team gets the ball.
3. Our players are losers. They were out-fought in every department today by a team with nothing to play for. They have no balls. As soon as the going gets tough, they go missing.
4. We have an ineffective manager. Everybody knows that he will be offered - an accept - the England job, and he is now treading water.

In addition to this, I am sick of some of the shit we are serving up.
I am sick of hearing 'away' from Friedel every time the ball is played into the box, and especially when it is floated in from distance and any goalkeeper worth his salt would claim it.
I am sick of Walker's 'crosses' going straight into row z when he is under no pressure.
I am sick of the fact that our 'best' player is completely incapable of taking a corner and yet continues to take them all when VdV isn't on the pitch.
I am sick of Adebayor being fantastic one day and then not turning up for the next three games.
I am sick of Bale wandering around with his thumb up his arse and not bothering to recover position when the ball is lost. (What happened to that 'great engine'?)
I am sick of Defoe ball-watching when a ball is played in instead of making a run in anticipation of being on the end of it.
I am sick of supporting a club with a loser mentality; and

More than all of this, I am completely fucking sick of the excuses that are continually trotted out when we repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again.

So no, I don't believe that I will be enjoying the run-in with you. I would have enjoyed it had we done what we should have and sown up a top four place by Easter. But we didn't do that; instead we decided to 'choke'. Now I'll just suffer us failing again - just like I always have.
