Do you think this new rule will help our play?

Goal-kicks

Up until now, no player could be in the box when a goal-kick was taken. Now, the goalkeeper can play the ball to defenders inside the penalty area, but opposition players have to remain outside.

One thing it will do is make people in the match thread wet their pants saying, "why do we have to fuck about with it so close to the goal, just get it out"

From what I’ve seen of it so far it looks like it really puts the pressure on our defenders. Maybe it’s just that it seems so alien to me and I’ll get used to it, like when the passback rule came in many years ago, the players will too.

Not so sure. Chance we could be inviting danger even closer to our goal if playing teams that press well.

Yes easier to keep possession, but two opposing players on the edge of the box racing in on our defender once goal kick has been taken certainly will greatly reduce room for error.

Wouldn't leave much room for the back pass to the goalie if pressurised, you've lost that space the box once provided.

We've witnessed a few times when we've almost played ourselves into trouble with the insistence of playing out from the back from a goal kick, reducing the space further... I'm not so sure I'm in for that.

There is definitely more pressure on defenders. Last year if the attacking player got too close, the defender would just step into the box and the goal kick would have to be retaken. This year there's no such get out clause and the defender is under pressure straight away and much closer to our goal!

Anything that decreases the distance Lloris kicks the ball is good for me!
In the pre season friendlies pretty much every time, Lloris passed to the defender, Verts or Toby, they passed it back and he tried a little dink over the top of the attacking player to one of our full backs who were hugging the touchline and most of the time it span over their head and out of play

KWP did show a nice little bit of skill to turn his man and start dribbling it out at pace though, which was good.

Oh that one.
Not the one that says
Spurs are allowed 12 players, 5 subs , two keepers
and start a goal up.

That should help.

The other one looks double-dodgy to me.

I can see a good few CB getting caught out by a nippy forward getting in and pinching the ball once the defender receives it.

So far in pre-season games very little difference.

I think it will take a little time for teams to adjust to what the best strategy is. What I can see happening though is the team without the ball just saying ok, we'll let the centre backs have it in their own six yard box and try to seal off all passing options. It will then be interesting to see if centre backs are tasked with being a bit braver and carrying the ball forward and provoking someone to come and press them and opening up space for a pass.

Looking at it from the other end, I can see Son and Lucas loving it.

We have ball playing defenders and press resistant midfielders and deadly finishers, it's going to help our transitions massively, this is how we play high risk/high reward - if anything it's will majorly assist our game.
