And just Jermain's luck - one of the few times he actually played for us this season has meant that he'll miss out on Wembley with Portsmouth. He must feel jinxed.

Depends what you mean by completed.

The loan deal was completed, not sure if Pompey have actually paid us what they agreed to yet, but I assume they did after Benjani went to City.

as far as I know it was- though it wasn't very high profile -

I also noted that at one stage it was £9m for JD - then suddenly it became £7m - so I don't know what happened there - my feeling is that pompey messed up big-time on benjani- so the fee for JD was 'talked down' but actually it was still the original £9m - but what do I know?

I remember reading in the News (pompeys local paper) that it was completed as a transfer, but that was after deadline day, while he was on loan there, not sure how it works tho.

Found this.

We have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Jermain Defoe.
Jermain joined us from West Ham United in the January transfer window of 2004 and went on to score 64 goals in 177 appearances for the Club.

The Club has reluctantly agreed the transfer of Jermain in light of there being less than 18 months left on his contract.

We wish him all the best for the future.

Yup - and he left just as we'd got to Wembley ourselves. Double whammy.

yea in relation to this topic I read his agent (Sky Andrew) was taking legal action against Defoe for not paying him the fee agreed for the transfer. Not sure if this had an affect on the whole thing going through.
