I will get panned for this and possibly rightly but ever since he has started getting tattoos his fitness has declined. Now I'm not anti-tattoo by any stretch but I do wonder if putting dye into a finally tuned sporting body is the best thing for it.

Your immune system surely has to divert resources during the healing process not to mention any possible toxins now inside the body. I have read some studies about how ink has been found in the lymph nodes and how tattooed skin does not sweat in the same way as non tattooed.

I’m sure more studies will be done in this area in the future now many sportsman have them.

I think with a month or two of rehab and rest and now with a little more squad depth he will be more likely to stay fit, although the risk of his injury reoccurring is high. There are a number of reasons for hamstring injuries, fatigue, limited sprint exposure in training, weakness in hip extension, increased hip flexor tension and reduced hip flexor range of motion there are a lot more reasons these just a few. Those who get hamstring injuries are very likely for it to reoccur so yes it is chronic, but there are exercise and rehab programs that have been show to limit the recurrence something the physios and sport scientists will be well aware of.

You also aren't wrong about the tattoos not sure about their role in muscle strains but people can have some serious reactions: Tattooing has become a risk factor for severe adverse reactions related to inks, procedures and settings. Both infectious and non-infectious adverse reactions have been observed among otherwise healthy people with significant morbidity. There are some graphic photos but if your interested: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3519250/

I've suffered last few years with tight hamstrings and all the advice I was getting was to do these stretches etc which was making it worse, Finally found a real expert on youtube instead of listening to the physios and it turns out the problem it's because my glutes were significantly weaker than the rest of my leg muscles and was causing an Anterior pelvic tilt so I needed to build them up to fix the tilt and take the pressure of my hamstrings, the worst thing you can do is stretch those hamstring. Been so much better and has helped with plantar fasciitis too.

Some1 let dele know about athlean-X

Yeah the guy is incredible, he trains athletes at the highest level in baseball, NFL even WWE, hes sorted so many of my ailments, thought I was stuck with hamstring problems for life.

I came across one of his videos by accident when looking at some exercises for a bad shoulder that’s plagued me for about three years.

Interesting one about the hamstrings, I find stretching doesn’t really help I’ll check out his videos on them.

BEN seems more optimistic: Dele out weekend should be back geordies

Good news, but just because he’s fit enough to return in a couple of weeks doesn’t mean he doesn’t have inherent hamstring issues that may keep reoccurring.

Yeah I’ve got herniated discs and was getting tight hamstrings. Strengthening glutes and stomach muscles has helped more than stretching ever did
