I agree it's ok covering the lanes and doing some nice flicks but this year he has to make a solid contribution to our goals and assists. He has become more casual in his attacking play, needs to stop thinking he is Ronaldo and start emulating what Ronaldo has done. The reason I'm saying it is because he has the talent for it.
I agree, he needs to start getting back to the numbers he was hitting previously to justify playing the way he plays. So languid but lacks the touch to go with that style. He just needs to relearn the basic aspect of football, pass and move, playing with your head up etc. He's playing like a superstar without the ability of one.

Was interested to get some views on Dele Allis role this season with a change of formations or system and what he would need to do to make a real difference this year.
I think NDombele with help open the field for a more dynamic runs into space but last season Dele did tremendous in defensive roles but wasn't as great a factor going forward.
Seeing as Lamela looked a lot better in the first preseason game, what holds for Dele Alli this season

More freedom to express himself further forward could be great for us.

Needs to go back the the instinctive player he was rather than last years version who would always sit on the ball for too long before releasing a pass and kill our momentum

Hopefully an improvement on last. Not that that would be too difficult to achieve. To be fair, injuries and our squad depth in general probably played a big part in his lack of form.
Hopefully he’ll come good again this season.

A good one, he didn't have a pre season and was injured on intl duty for England in the WC and picked up another couple of injuries in the season as well, he was practically running on fumes.

Now he's injury free and well rested and has competion for his place so no more playing him as a CMF or DMF so I fully expect him to push on again this season.

Dele can play a free role game but the key for me is he has to be totally committed.
The step overs are gone but Poch stuck him in a defensive pressing marking role last season. This season he has a great opportunity. I wasn't impressed with him vrs Juve as Lamela looked more focused but he has a chance to really be great this season

I think Poch had given him defensive duties to quite an extent that really muffled his attacking opportunities but by the same token he could have been doing more attacking wise.
His roles are a bit complicated lately when at first he was involved a lot more attacking wise.
This season our whole make up will be different but with Dele it's hard to know what he really would have to do as it looks like we have players in every department.
WRD seemed to have some good ideas about it

I could be completely wrong but i got the feeling that because he was really struggling late into the season, fitness/injury wise, he therefor continually looked to flick balls through or do something 'clever' so that he a) didn't have to work as hard by doing it and/or b) wasn't at risk from being clobbered from behind by a defender. Felt like he was protecting himself far more than he usually would. I didn't think it was a case of him thinking he was better than he is. That was my reading of it at the time as it was out of character really and he still worked hard tracking back imo

I would also add that, as with any young man, there is a chance his break up with his partner at that time might have unsettled him enough so that he dwelt on it when he needed to have a clear head. That alone could cost a crucial 5% in performance. Glad he's back with her (if only so we get to see her on holiday with him in a bikini).

As many have said, i'd expect him to get back to 2017/18 levels next season - fantastic player who we are lucky to have.

He has talent. He started with step overs and being a bit of a punk but he calmed that down and with that lost a bit if his flair.
He was injured at times and had midfield defensive duties to do at times for a weakened midfield as well.
I wish I saw more sparkle in his first game pre season but he is fantastically gifted but needs to get focused.I agree I think it's time and it will happen with the tremendous support if players around him and also the buzz, around us as a team

He's really plagued by injuries the last 12 months.

Brand new season and he's injured again, you couldn't make it up. Hope it's not a long term thing.

We’ve certainly been unlucky with injuries, but I can’t help feel we’ve brought some of it on ourselves with having to play less then 100% fit players due to not having a strong enough squad.

Great, so we're likely the first couple of games with zero attacking options off the bench as things stand today.

It's utterly ridiculous. We've had the whole summer and yet again we are in a position where our strength in depth is embarrassing. Amazed Poch stands for it.

He won't.

I bet any money he doesn't last the season if Levy fucks up this window. There's been plenty of warning.

Really disappointing for Deli.

I hope its just precautionary and that he'll be fit and firing in a week or so.

It would help if we didn't flog the same 13 players to death every season. God forbid we actually have enough depth to manage our top players throughout the season.
