Taking my 5-year old to her first game, for the friendly against Shakhtar. Looking for any tips for taking kids, things to do, places to eat, etc... I would like it to be a special day for her so that, even if she ends up not going again, she will remember it. Advice and ideas welcome. Thanks

As it's a friendly they'll likely be expecting folks with kids - in the past they've had people wandering around doing face paint, for example. Getting there early so they can take part in any activities being offered may be a good idea, too.

Depending on how they are with noise, a set of ear defenders may be useful. Mine used them until they were about 8, from memory.

Take her iPad, loads of sweets and a cardboard cup holder from McDonald’s so you can send her for beers.
She’ll probably spend all the game looking at the stadium.

I can't remember exactly what we did when I took my daughter for her first game, but I do remember the sheer scale of it took her by surprise and the noise scared her.

Oh and she loved the bus ride to the game, she named all four horses :cautious:

Here's my tips:

Get there early so she can watch the hype video at the start.

The kids meal deal used to be really good value (hot dog, chips, Fruit Shoot, pack of football cards and fruit) for £5, but now it's nowhere near as good, you don't get the cards or the fruit I think. However, still better than everything else. Look out for that.

Go get food at about 37 minutes, don't wait for half-time. Any time before that and they won't be ready.

Expect her to get bored in the second half. Bring out a snack.

Pray you aren't sat next to a sweary twat.

EDIT: the above was for a league match and I forgot you're going to a friendly. It'll be much easier, the perfect game to choose.

I took my daughter to Bite to Eat on the High Road. That was where my godfather took me for my first game in 1986, so it meant something to me. Also, sausage and chips, kids love simple food. Everyone’s a winner. Trip to the club shop should be a given. Although in these times I’d rather not give Levy a penny extra. Call it a one off and buy some little bits of shite you wouldn’t normally dream of purchasing at an inflated price as they managed to get a club badge on it somewhere. Gotta have a keepsake. Essentially, don’t take the day too seriously. Relax, roll with the punches, see how it takes. Good luck!

I’m doing the same with my 5 year old. Really excited. Can’t wait to see his face when he sees the stadium for the first time

One of the benefits of the new stadium is you can get in early and stay late to avoid the rush. I recommend both, especially getting there early.

Get a paper ticket.

Go to the ticket office and ask them to print off whatever digital ones you have for the game. Say you're having device problems.

Great memory to keep

Love to hear how it goes, my little girl is 3 and I’m already thinking about when it’s a good age to take her.

My first trip to the lane wasn’t til I was 12 and I’ve been hooked ever since but I’m not sure what age is too early to take her

It all depends on the child. I took my son when he was 2, it was way to early for him but wanted him to be able to say he saw a game at WHL. He is 8 now and last season was the first time that he really loved the whole game.

I’m slowly getting my two year old granddaughter to say Come on you Spurs, but all she says is “ Man fall over” when watching. Enjoy and hope you all have a great day.

I'd say go early and be prepared to leave early when she inevitably gets bored.

Not sure how you are getting there, but if travelling by public transport, you can get a bus from directly outside Seven Sisters that takes you almost to the ground - she may enjoy this more than the football!!

Visit the club shop, have a mooch about outside - particularly around the South Stand if possible as that's reasonably chilled and she should hopefully enjoy the excitement of the day.

Loads of food options, unless she's a picky eater in which case pop to Sainsburys beforehand and grab something reliable.

Hope you have a great day of it
