If he only wants a loan, we should forget and move on.

I wouldn't be happy for Spurs just to be used as an audition for Ceballos to prove he is worthy of getting into Madrid's first 11.

A loan with an option to buy would be worth it for us. Let Arsenal be the desperate ones who are basically developing a Madrid youngster for a season.

One loan is acceptable. Loan him and Bales together with RM paying 75% of Bales' wages and we pay 100% of Dani's.

He's not really a youngster, in age or development.

He's nearly 23, game ready, and able to fill a key creative role in the team either as depth or rotation.

He'd probably be one of our main 14-15 players playing most of the PL + CL minutes.

Given the amount of deals left to do this window, it could be very useful not to have to find another £10-15m down payment - which would likely restrict other deals.

It even frees us to offer a loan-to-buy on Wanyama who we can't seem to shift, as we're not yet committed to Ceballos fee and long term wages.

If we've a buy clause, we have a year to attract the player to sign - much like Tielemans and Gomes - and if he goes back, so be it.

We'll have a more clear in-tray and budget next summer to replace him.

That’s why City are so lethal.... Silva x 2, Sterling and Aguero, even De Jesus when he plays... they’re all very quick footed and a nightmare to both mark and challenge. Doubling up on one player is do-able eg Eriksen but trying to neutralise 3-4 quick footed players is impossible hence why City score goals for fun. On the pitch offensively they’re superb but defensively they have frailties, these however are rarely exposed because they’re dominate 90% + of their games. This is what we should be aspiring to.
With De Bruyne to feed them with annoyingly good passes!
I hope to see us regularly playing with Winks as our deepest CM and everyone ahead of him able to pick a pass in the final third.

I do think Hercules ITK re Eriksen having a time limit to make a decision makes sense and it's holding up these deals.
If we are really in for Ceballos,Lo Celso etc and a time limit for Eriksen was a week or so from now then it makes sense that it's all on hold as the selling clubs will have us as a more serious buyer.
Levy needs to get his control back

Seems like sign a new contract. Find a new club otherwise you are backup next season.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned earlier, but Ceballos is not in the pre-season squad

Could be either him taking a longer break because of the U21 or him leaving...

I suspect it’s him being away with the u21s. He’s on his hols now after all.

Unlike Lo Celso, I don’t feel like this guy is all that keen on us. I’d tread carefully.
That's the problem - his heart clearly lies in Madrid. I suspect he might be quite keen on us, but only as a stepping stone. Even if he were convinced by the project and signed on a permanent deal he'd no doubt be angling for a move back to Madrid as soon as he had a good season. Madrid would no doubt make us include a reasonable buy back clause so he'd be hard to hang on to if he pushed to leave.

Weirdly, the only way I can imagine him making it at Spurs long term would be if he never lived up to his Madrid potential and just settled as a useful squad player, knowing they don't want him back.

It feels like we've been linked to tons of these upcoming Madrid midfielders over the years and none of them ever seem to come off. Probably for this exact reason.

Keen to play for Pochettino and Spurs over the other linked clubs? I can totally see that.

Refusing to give up on a long term future at RM, I can totally see that too.

There's been strong words from Spanish media now backed up by ITK (although JJ staying particularly tight lipped on this one) so I think it has plenty of legs. Do think the club prioritises Lo Celso however.

Honestly I don't blame him or anyone.

You are leaving friends, family et al for a foreign country, language, culture. If you have had your heart set on playing for your boyhood club and are on the fringes of doing so regularly then giving it all up us a big decision to make.

If he comes then great but unlike the vast majority of other players on the planet moving to Tottenham is a step down for him. If I was him I'd be holding out for a loan too.
