A very good read.

Hopefully that can ring true in the Premier league although I think the NBA is also often won by pooling a collection of Bosh, James and Wade esque mega stars, so the experiment is on.

Despite not having spent a penny this transfer window I honestly believe that we can win the league this season. Clubs have gone out and overhauled their squads. The only thing standing in our way is believing that we can win the league this season. I sometimes feel like we are too afraid to actually be bold enough to actually go out and say we want to win the league this season. We have a fantastic team, they are young, they have been playing a lot of football together. The only thing we are lacking is hunger and raw determination. That can't be bought unfortunately.

All this is true, but the big change seems to be that we are confident of our ability to keep the squad together. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s we always seemed to be at the mercy of bigger clubs whose primary aim seemed to be to destabilise and weaken a potential competitor.
In this way, we lost key players to our richer rivals, with the additional complication that we never seemed to know who would still be available for selection after the end of August.
I'm dying to know what has changed behind the scenes because, despite the knowledge that the players could earn substantially more money elsewhere, the club seems confident that the players' contracts are watertight and more importantly, the players seem happy to stay to develop their careers at Spurs.
In those dark times, I never imagined I'd be able to say this, but we must be doing something right!

That is a very interesting read and should help to reassure fans, worried about the lack of signings etc. Hopefully Kyle Walker-Peters can be an understudy to Trippier this season, so maybe we don't need to go out and sign anyone else for now. If we can get a bit more luck with injuries, there's no reason to think that we can't continue from where we left off last season and compete for title again.

There is a lot to be said for continuity but it has to be accompanied by talent in the players. In the case of Spurs, yes there is a lot of talent there with a good number of the academy and bench players showing a lot of promise. The proof of the pudding is in the eating so we will have to wait and see how the season unfolds before judging whether we should have brought in a couple or so of proven top class players. For the moment we will have to continue in trusting in MP. That said, there is still time for the odd purchase to happen.

Regarding Conte's comments on Spurs not buying players showing a lack of ambition, he is missing the real point. He may consider himself a brilliant manager, but it is only because he had the opportunity to be so successful. He was with rich clubs and having in his team a lot of the best players in the world. There are dozens of managers in the game who could have emulated his achievements given the same opportunities. That which Ranieri at Leicester and MP at Spurs have achieved with a fraction of the money can rightly be claimed as outstanding achievements. Conte has yet to prove he can win with teams not packed with super stars.

There is a saying, "Engage brain before speaking." He would do well to heed it.

I don't think it's a secret that the answer is simply Pochettino. We lose him we lose everyone.

I think with another season of experience and maturity we will naturally be better next season. We should expect less injuries too and if we were to upgrade Sissoko with Barkley and get Lamela back then we should be thinking of getting at least 80 pts again, being up there anyway.

That's what my opinion would be at WHL. At Wembley? Simply who knows?

Even if we never win a trophy, I wish our club doesn't change the way it is run.It has a very distinct identity that is precious to it's fans.

Agreed - Conte is the right man for a club with no character or soul

Most of our fans should be reading this and taking note. Very well written, makes a lot of excellent points, I particularly liked this.....

"It was not always so rare for a team to develop together and be given the time to reach the next level. This era of impatience and an obsession with transfers has seen it go out of fashion. But for Pochettino and his own band of warriors, this unique moment they find themselves in could be the competitive advantage that sets them apart from the rest."

Couldn't have put it better myself. I was reading your response waiting for the endemic SC "but".

I think too many on here fail to see the value and importance of continuity and stability of a squad.

IMHO there is no room for hindsight in this situation. I just sincerely hope we can build on the last 2 years and get some silverware.

We deserve it on so many levels.

honestly, if we were at WHL this season I really do believe we would win the league....I am not in the slightest bit worried about the other teams and our lack of transfer action. Am however concerned about Wembley...Poch and the team talked about the feeling they had last year at the Lane. Really hope we can feel very positive and at home from the start of the season at Wembley.

If we were to be win the title, we would be regarded as something of a miracle, perhaps not to the extent of Leicester, but definitely the talk of the town, for years to come; not only because we had spend so little, but also because we had moved to another venue and succeed where none had before.

Continuity is a crucial element. Where we come up a little bit short is when we have players coming off the bench or starting games in Cup competitions. Hopefully Onomah is now developed enough to offer something more and it could also be possible that Sissoko settles in this year if we don't sell him. Son and Lamela didn't have great starts here but came good later on. You never know. We may also have a season less blighted by injuries.

The players want to play for Pochettino. I'm not sure there's much more to it.

They all speak to each other, they discuss their futures and their prospects and they reinforce each other's sense that they work for the best manager and that their careers are best served, in the long run, by continuing to play for him, instead of taking the short term money fix.

It's also important to note that we aren't "lucky" to have Pochettino. He came to Tottenham because he took a close look at the academy and went "bloody hell" [Spanish equivalent] when he saw the quality of player and the state of the new training facility.

Pochettino as a Tottenham manager is the product of 15 years of investment, learning and long-term planning by ENIC.

Overall, I think is the best of the several recent articles on this topic: "alternative spin on Spurs not buying players". It's not the best-written, but it's the best-thought-out.

It's up to us fans to do everything we can to create the atmosphere at Wembley that will make the players feel like it is home.
