This year could really be a darkhorse year for us. With City the only team looking worthy right now, this could be the year for us, if we settle in nicely, to jump into a CL spot. Liverpool are slop, woolwhich transfer policy looks to be catching up to them, Chelsea are nowhere near where they should be, and united are, well they just blow.

We look miles away at the moment, but you never know things could click into place. A team this young is always going to be inconsistent though...

Love your optimism but Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United are certain for the top 4 this season. Liverpool were always going to flop this season that was obvious to anyone (with half a brain) before the season started.

I don't have optimism for Spurs, but I have a sense of something brewing, to quote Gladiator....

"There was once a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile. And I fear that it will not survive the winter."

What's the big fucking obsession with the Champions League?

Fuck playing for 4th every season.. makes us as bad as the Goons.

No one said we are "playing for 4th", obviously cups are what we want. Only that with the "sure things" not really playing to potential, and no guarantee that they will, the world is in our hands. I shoot for the league title every year until the point it is unreachabl, becasue you know, that's the whole point of the game in the end, be the best.

No such thing as certain, its why the game is played

Far too early to make these predictions. It's not how you start it's how you finish. The very top teams finish strong because they have the quality in depth to handle all the extra cup games. If we continue to finish poorly it will cost us. It will be crucial that we rotate the squad and keep the players fresh for the final run in.

I had a look at our fixtures before the 3 O'clock kick offs today, and now they have finished , with a game in hand, every team we play between now and end of December halfway mark we only have 2 games against teams below us. our next 4 fixtures in the League will be tough (as every fixture should be), but even between now and the end of November the only 2 games on our performances so far I would expect to win are Bourmouth and Villa.

until we start performing and gelling I'm more worried on where we will be by the end of November, don't start doing well and December could be a very sticky month. unfortunately at the moment i'm feeling like a half empty pint.

think we will manage 40pts lol, but not expecting 65+ unless performances pick up.

Our performances would need to improve threefold. Right now we are playing like a lower mid-table team ourselves. We are in no position to point at other teams and laugh at their ineptitude when we are looking awful ourselves.

Tomorrow will tell us a lot. Palace are one of several of the teams who finished below us last season who currently look better than us( add Swansea, Everton, Leicester, West Ham, ) and I wouldn't particularly fancy our chances against a few others at the moment.( eg how confident would you really be against Bournemouth?). Having said that, I cling to the hope that maybe Poch is a progresive manager and he will start to show some semblance of a real 'philosophy' that we can actually see on the pitch , hopefully with Son and Njie proving to be really good buys and Alli becoming our next 'gem'. I still feel, however, that we are painfully short up front and it is going to cost us. I found out today that Son and Njie are classified as ' strikers' in the telegraph Fantasy league so even they have fallen for the club's 'spin'.
A defeat tomorrow could be a real blow. I was dismayed to see West Ham win at City, not just because they won( and that they look worryingly better equipped than us) but because City are at WHL next week and what are the chances of them losing again?
I'm just hoping that our last 2 games will give us the confidence to put in a rare good home performance aganst a team that looks the very sort that come to WHL and hit us with rapid counter attacks, as we create nothing with about 65% possession.
A good win could be a real turning point, althoug the OP's top 4 suggestion appears ludicrous on several counts. A poor defeat, however, could spell an extremely difficullt season ahead.
