Is there no news on whether it'll be watchable on a screen around the city or near the stadium?

If they're doing events in various places over the weekend, I'm surprised they're not showing the game anywhere in the evening.

Def no screens in the fan park, so it'll be a matter of getting to a pub sharpish... I think its a security thing, don't want 000s fans who've been drinking all day in one area in the evening.

Daughter Liz (Irish Rover)
says all decent bars including Irish bars
have been fully booked since the semi's

Check the small print on the 'Penalti' offer.
It's a small 'Spanish Sports bar, not highly recommended.
Is it standing only and do you get a guaranteed menu.
is it just one beer and a burger.
Liz doubtful about the deposit too.
Usually just take a booking.
If they're not fully booked ask yourselves why.

James Joyce pub said they're fully booked (only had a limited number of tables bookable anyway) but the rest of bar is open on a first come first served basis, so yeh, likely to be standing room only you unless get there mega early. James Joyce has multiple screens from what I can see on their website. Penalti is about a 40 min walk from Plaza Colon, so a bit out of the way anyway.

Christ. Didn't think it would be so difficult to get into a bar to watch the bloody game!

I think we'll be heading to the Puerta del sol or Plaza Mayor to see if it looks like the game will be on in any of the bars/restaurants in the square. As that would probably be the best atmosphere. If not, we'll probably just head to any random Spanish bar, they all tend to show live football, rather than try and squeeze into a crammed ex-pat bar.

I’m sure all the pubs in the Spanish capital can’t wait for 30/40,000 English people who’ve been drinking all day to turn up in their bars. They must be really excited!

It’s a difficult one really, I think they’ve made an error not having screens in the fan areas. That way they could have contained everyone rather than having loads of drunk people everywhere they can’t control. Then again, it’s the Spanish police, they’re probably doing it so they have an excuse to kick the shit out of us like normal.

I think use of a spurs shirt will have to be tactical!

I am surprised there's no designated areas near the stadium for each set of fans. Although I guess they didn't anticipate 2 teams with so many fans who are desperate to be in Madrid, even without a ticket.

We'll have to do recon on Friday evening. Luckily I speak Spanish. If I hear of any decent venues, I'll update in here.

I can't see any pub/bar showing the footy being empty.....you get in as early as you can, position yourself near the screen and hope for the best.... and pray it doesn't become overrun with scousers! Plaza Mayor and Puerta Sol have some sort of organised Champions League festival on, so I would scope it out first! https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/about-uefa/news/newsid=2605497.html

Once you get away from the city centre, there'll be lots of little local spanish bars/tapas bars, and most will have a TV and be showing the final I imagine. It's just whether you'd want to be that far away from the atmosphere/spurs fans.

After some googling, Plaza Santa Barbara seems like a nice area near Plaza Colon. A couple of nice tapas bars with outside tables. Might be some options there.

Also according to Google maps its a 40 min walk from Plaza Colon.

Also according to Google maps its a 40 min walk from Plaza Colon!

It is a 10 minute cab ride though... I think space in pubs and bars will be at a premium that you may need to disperse slightly outward to get somewhere... I mean with 40 or 50k fans (Liverscum and Spurs) it will be difficult no matter which way you look at it.

At this rate, some may need to ensure their phone is fully charged up and watch it on that haha.

I might get to James Joyce like 16:00. Not bothered about the fan park. Would like to be able to leave and come back though!

Ironically that’s exactly what they should want. Keep everything contained.

Madrid will be mayhem now. You watch.

Not far wrong mate! I don't mind standing and don't mind a bit of a squeeze as long as I can see a screen

I reckon so. Just random pockets of both fans everywhere in town.
The evening will be lively. I’ll be doing an all nighter I think so that could be fun.

It’s pure stupidity from the authorities. Makes me wonder if there will be any English police out there at all. There should be in order to help the Spanish authorities out in how to deal with English fans.

Consensus elsewhere seems to be they aren't putting up screens as they don't want to encourage even more fans without a ticket to travel to Madrid.

They have fan zones in place (without screens) set up as visiting fans need somewhere to congregate during the day plus it helps keep rival fans apart to avoid trouble as they are based on two separate tube lines (I think?!). Scramble for space in bars is going to be mad, just hope we don't see any trouble between the two sets of fans so would go where you're going earlier than you think as everyone else without a ticket will have the same idea!
