The only caveat would be that a few years back they had a truly formidable team, which they don't seem to have anymore. Anyway, that would account for a chunk of those 'wins'.

Yeah but they really have been pretty average by their (usually very high) standards.
Switch over from old guard, new manager still finding his feet, etc...

They are starting to get it together somewhat and are catching the stuttering Dortmund, but Liverpool for me are still light favourites for the return tie, despite Bayern's home record.
