He's absolutely right. There's no advantage for English clubs since early deals never seem to happen unless for stupid money. The potential downside is huge as we well know with the Eriksen and Toby situations rumbling on. It would be fair if all the windows closed before the start of the domestic seasons.

This whole situation stinks of hubris from the Premier league, who probably thought the rest of Europe would follow suit

He may be right but considering we were one of the clubs to vote for it, makes us look a bit stupid.

Yep I'm sure he was the one pushing for it in the first place, something about wanting to close it earlier to be able to prepare the new season properly.

i think its best to close before you start the season, as you can get some players not want to play a game as they have not got their move. Yes European TW still open and can still unsettle some players but you have your general squad sorted.

So did I tbf. Considering the PL is where the money is I assumed the rest of Europe would not want to sell players unless the PL teams are involved.

Let’s face it. If it closed on the 2nd of September we’d be waiting for Lo Celso and Sessegnon until then too, which would be a disadvantage to us. I think it should be closed before the season and UEFA should just moved the damn thing altogether.

Blame Levy and all the other chairmen who voted for it.

Bringing it in is one thing and can be excused but I think to continue with it if it is causing your own clubs problems is not.

I feel we might still need a striker and 3rd choice keeper. We can still sign free agents like Nando right??

It is right that the window shuts before the end of the season. Just they did it the wrong way. They should have got other european leagues to agree then got uefa to do it european wide.
I prefer it. Otherwise we'd be waiting another couple of weeks to sign sess and lo celso.

Poch himself used to rail against the disruption of the window after the season started. I wouldn't read much into this, other than Poch enticing some interest to ship one or two out.

European leagues can do whatever, it's much much better for the clubs and the integrity of the premier league to have the window close before the kick off. I'm tired of clubs, us especially, writing off the first handful of games as though they don't matter. As though your recruitment shouldn't be resolved by the start of competition.

Happy plus, as Poch said.

The idea was for the European leagues to follow this move but they haven't, yet at least.

Only 5 PL clubs voted against it in 2017. Man City, Man Utd, Palace, Watford and Swansea. Burnley abstained. The other 14 were in favour of it.

Perhaps a better move would have been to close the domestic transfer window before the season starts but allow clubs to buy and sell outside until the end of August. The HG and squad registration requirements impose limitations as it is.

The whole point is to have a settled squad for the start of the season. Players fully focussed without being called by agents regarding possible moves.
We got half. We know who are squad is going into the season as long as levy doesn't decide to sell anyone.

Until the other windows close at the same time you still have that uncertainty but without the ability to replace them.

Yes. But we don't have to sell. If levy tells poch that is your squad till january. That will be his squad.
