Sorry if this comes across as me being a bit of a party pooper, but I'm not quite sure why we need a thread for this now? Our squad is exactly the same except for the addition of Ndombele.

It's still up in the air about who is/isn't leaving and we've really got no idea who we might bring in or not over the next few weeks. Surely a thread like this only makes sense towards the end of the transfer window when we know more about how the squad is going to look? The only discussion to be had here for the time being is whether Ndombele starts and who he replaces.

Add LoCelso/Ceballos to that and we have CM depth again.

To explain my react. I don't find your suggestion laughable at all, but "Not Trippier" killed me. :ROFLMAO:

Post your best XI for upcoming season, with or without Eriksen.

Mine is:

Lloris
Trippier-Alderweireld-Vertonghen-Rose
Lucas-Sissoko-Ndombele-Son
Dele
Kane

I think the potential departure of Eriksen might 'straigten' us up and allow us to get better service out wide by playing two wingers.

We know that when Eriksen and Dele is in the same lineup, one of them starts wide but they don't really stay there. They both want to be central. Rather than a like for like replacement for Eriksen, maybe his replacement is already in the squad in Lucas? We saw what he can do in UCL.
Tanguy the only creative force in that team, good luck keeping possession!

Waste of time discussing this now. More changes will happen between now and the villa game.

Expecting the likes of Alderweireld, Eriksen, and Trippier all to leave, with a fair others too. I also think Poch to go with a 4-3-3 system, with Winks as the ‘no.6’, Ndombele as the box-to-box midfielder, and a modern-day dynamic playmaker type to make up that trio.

Lloris

*New RB* (Atal)
Sanchez
Vertonghen
Rose

Ndombélé
Winks (holding role)
*New playmaker* (Lo Celso/Ceballos)

Son
Kane
Dele

Given our reported transfer targets (and my own personal choices) here is how I predict the squad to look come August:
5d1d1a1f438d3.jpg

INS would include: Ndombele, Clarke (loan out), GLC, Ceballos (loan in w/ buy o.), Saliba, R. Sess, S. Sess (loan out)
OUTS would include: Toby, Eriksen, Trippier, Wanyama, Nkoudou, Janssen, Vorm, Llorente, Aurier

After shredding the deadwood of the squad, keeping the skilled, versatile players and signing new talent, this squad would be our strongest in a long time. We'd have a significant amount of depth of players who are ready to slot into first XI and are versatile enough to play multiple positions. Specifically, I think Davies could see his role shift more into cover for Vertonghen at LCB after putting in some decent performances there this season. Sess would be viewed as our second choice LB and a forward option. Foyth and Dier could of course cover at CB as well.

Because it's reported that our next purchases plan to be funded primarily by player trading, I could also see us keeping Aurier and not signing another CB (i.e. Saliba) this window to make Foyth our primary CB backup. Another situation I could see would us be selling Aurier, signing a first choice RB (i.e. Atal) and not signing another CB.

I've been hugely impressed by Foyth's performances at RB for both club and country and I think he could do a job for us there. He's still primarily a CB IMO, but I also think he's a huge talent that just needs games under his belt to hit the next level and playing RB would probably be best way for him to get games for the club at this point in time.

I’m really sorry and I truly love the kid, but if by all accounts we’re really going fully in and backing Poch and this team to go full tilt for the league and CL next season Dele is not a starter.

My title winning team if I get my way:

Lloris
New RB (?) Toby Jan Rose
Winks
Ndombele Lo Chelso
Eriksen
Son Kane

Surprised how many people are leaving Sissoko out?!? Arguably our player of the season.

This is a load of bollox. He had a tough season, like many others post-WC, injuries and probably a dip in confidence. He's a big-game player though, and has proven it time and time again. The 2-0 against Chelsea at WHL, scored in both FA Cup semis, two assists for Lucas in CL semi final. He affects games, and after a proper rest and pre-season, and now we've got Tanguy to boss midfield, I expect him to thrive next year getting closer to Kane and scoring and creating.

The team needs to be built around him as a goal scoring 10 for him to succeed . You'd need a creator and a box to box playing to get the best out of him. He worked well when we had Dembele and Dier in CM with Eriksen floating off the flank to provide the creativity. However Dele's ball retention and decision making is terrible in CM. I'd rather have quick intricate link up play than Dele slowing our attack.

If we’re going to have a #10 who only really wants to link play when he can find a killer flick, we’d need someone else up there knitting things together, which in turn might make it difficult for us to also include pace up front. Eriksen happily does both the inspired and boring things.

I think that last part is key. He's not had a brilliant season but he's played a lot of it out of position/role (as well as injuries/fatigue and all the rest of it). Now we've got more cover in CM hopefully he'll have license to play further forward like he used to when he first joined. If Eriksen does leave for Madrid etc. then that also frees up the position in the middle behind Kane where I reckon he wants to play so things could be falling into place for him to have another monster season.

Maybe I’m wrong but there really isn’t a fibre of my being that believes we can win anything with Aurier and Davies as our first choice fullbacks :meh:

100% agree , we need full backs as good or with potential to be as good or better than Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold
