Dimitar Berbatov was at Tottenham the last time they won a trophy, beating Chelsea in the 2008 league cup final.
And he has said that the club must win something or risk losing their star players, even up and coming talents like Harry Winks.

It’s an interesting idea. I must admit, up to this point trophies hadn’t crossed my mind. Someone should tell Poch.

Yawn and so must Liverpool win a trophy after just as long. And United because it's expected of them, and arsenal because the new manager needs one to be a success

If you voice an opinion
often enough for long enough
it sometimes ends up true.

Lloris has been leaving almost
since the day he arrived.
Now a lot of people
couldn't care less
whether he goes or stays.

Kane, Pochettino, departure imminent
now Eriksen, soon Dele.
If Berbatov had stayed
we might have built on the 2008 win.

Is that a poem?

Winning a minor trophy like the League Cup is a good day out for the fans but otherwise irrelevant. When we have won it previously we have not progressed to a higher level in the way that has happened under Pochettino. Even Redknapp’s achievements in the Champions League were more impressive. We want a trophy but to win a major trophy is very hard. Hopefully we will win one but in the meantime the media will continue to use our lack of a trophy to try to undermine us. If it was not this they would find another way to criticise us. After all, we are not their beloved Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and United.

Funnily enough, arsenal fans are always complaining that we get preferential treatment and that we get praised just for getting top 4 when they were criticized for it.

I think his frustration with our lack of trophies and success is mirrored by many of us.

Definitely. Problem is that we are a way from winning the major ones and we won't prioritise the ones that we have a better chance of winning. Like it or not, we can't complain about the media doubters when we're not winning trophies. We have a great long term strategy but the media are interested in successful sides and successful sides are those that win trophies. I think that on the whole we get decent treatment from the media. The media aren't Spurs fans - they're not obligated to blow smoke up our backsides just because we have a team with potential.

It's much harder now to win trophies than at any other time in history. Once upon a time it was Pool, United US, Everton and Arsenal challenging, although Liverpool were dominant, we were all much closer in terms of a level playing field (financial) and closer together in terms of quality, since the emergence of Chavs and City, and the 'lower' teams now able to buy world class players and hold on to them. Chavs win the title, next year they don't...sack the manager, buy a new world class team...win the title next year... we can't compete with that.

Arsenal fans are wrong about everything else so I wouldn’t believe them on that either.
