'Countless' lol. Absolute myth. Every player makes 'unforced errors' but people act like he cost us a goal every game.

Bullshit. The guy was a liability in many a game, and invariably made silly backpasses or dilly dallied on his own half way line to get caught in possession. He was great when he had his head screwed on and passed forward. But just wasn't aware enough to play deep. The fact we've been far more solid since he has been out of the side should really point to something.

But alas his fan girls just can't see past his first season.

Yeah, us being more solid has nothing to do with that fact that we're now playing with a defensive midfielder (in Mason's position). It was all Bentaleb's fault.

Funny how the vast majority of people saw Bentaleb as a key part of our midfield prior to the 15/16 season if he had been making so many errors in 14/15.

Do we know Bentaleb can still turn down the move? I thought the agreement was put
In place with club and player, so when he signed in summer, he knew that if he played x amount of games he would automatically be a perm at player with them. Guess work to say he can say no? Or these deals with clubs would never work

Really don't understand how it didn't work out for him here. 16 million isn't a lot for a young gifted CM.

One can only assume it was attitude, although he never played like he lacked character and would have thought Poch could have worked on him.

Would struggle to sign better for that sort of cash.

In terms of why it didn't work out for him as part of our starting eleven:
Pochettino used him as the deeper of the two CMs, alongside Mason, whilst Dembele was struggling for fitness. As well as Bentaleb did that season, he clearly didn't provide the defensive shield that Poch wanted, so Dier and Wanyama now fulfill that role and there was no way that Bentaleb was going to be used in that role again. With Dembele regaining both his fitness and form, Bentaleb didn't even have the opportunity to fight with Mason for a starting spot as the slightly more advanced CM.

In terms of it not working out as a squad player:
My guess is that Pochettino didn't view him to be good enough. Carroll was frequently given the nod ahead of him last season, so either Poch had high hopes for Carroll or relatively low hopes for Bentaleb. Perhaps there is some truth to the rumours Bentaleb's attitude.

Dier has cost us more goals, or put us in more perilous situations this season alone with mistakes than Bentaleb did in his entire time here. Try watching the Liverpool or ManC highlights, or any CL game you choose from this season.

Do you really expect a 20yo to have "his head screwed on right" 100% of the time in a footballing sense ? Rabiot is a very similar players to Bentaleb, same characteristics, and was unhappy not getting games at PSG and he/his agent mum angled for a move exactly the way Bentaleb did, for similar reasons, look at his performance against Barca. No player is a perfect automaton, all our CM's have made mistakes and given the ball away in costly situations, but you hope a good coach can polish the bad and enhance the good (which our coach seems pretty adroit at doing), and if a 20yo Bentaleb could have the kind of season he did for us two years ago, it's safe to assume there was a hell of a lot of good in the potential pipeline.

Nobody claims he's perfect, but who expects a 20yo to be perfect ? but to play with the consistency and maturity he did, in the role he did, at this level, in this league in a very transitional team, aged 20 is something that was very impressive.

He can't get in our team. He won't get in our team. He's not good enough. He never EVER will be.

Get over it.

Suspect he lost Pochs trust over the Lamela challenge in the Espanol training camp last season, Alli commented that Lamela was really unhappy with Bentaleb.

Shame, but team/squad unity must trump most individual thoughts.

Other factors involved, it wasn't about his ability.

Interesting.

Fairly clear that Pochettino didn't want to work with him anymore, shame but he knows him on a personal basis whereas none of us do. Good enough for me.

Bentaleb continues its progression and plays every week and is very good!

A year of injured but it's getting better! He has lost nothing by going on the contrary ...

He is 22 years old and not only Tottenham as club in the world

I'm sure it will succeed

EXCLU! onzemondial

And the famous German spaces is a legend or is it true?
As in England! I have only known these two championships. On a counterattack, you can finish in front of the opposing goal. Everyone plays to score. Here, no one thinks of preserving his virgin cage.
Your coach, Markus Weinzierl often uses complimentary terms to you. Your reaction ?
He wants more from me. I exchanged a few words with him. I saw him very demanding with me and I know it's good. When a coach is demanding with you, it is because he counts on you or sees something in you. If he's so hard on me, it's because he wants to make me a great player. I am listening.
Why did you leave Tottenham?
Because I love football! I was unhappy in Tottenham. Me, I play football and when I do not play, I'm not happy. The coach (Mauricio Pochettino) did not make me play, but I do not blame him. Perhaps he had his reasons for not letting me play. I was coming back from injury and they had good results. I let him know I needed to play. Without putting pressure on him, without anything at all. I told him I needed to play, especially at my age. He asked me to continue to work in training and wait for my chance, but my luck did not come. I exchanged with him, he accepted my departure.
You separated on good terms?
There is no animosity. I respect what he did with Tottenham. Maybe at one point he might have shown me a proof of confidence, but that's life. He had good results and no reason to care about me. He had been the club's best season for a long time. I was not asking to play titular, but at least to grab minutes, to feel concerned. When you're on the bench without playing, it hurts. Then I was no longer in the group, it was settled. I played with the U21s to keep me in shape and to be able to leave at the end of the season.

"I want to reach a very big European club. Having goals slammed, it's useless. I do not know my limits and I hope I never know them. "

When you left Tottenham, President Levy introduced you as a great player and did not want to sell you to a competitor. Your opinion on that?
I have a lot of respect for him. I was very apprehensive of my departure. It was difficult, we will not lie, but I could talk with him, he was transparent with me explaining the whole situation. I told him my ideas, he assured me that he loved me well and did not want me to leave. He told me he did not want to drop me at an English club.
Did he tell you that?
He said, "I do not want to leave you in a championship where you risk shining and where I'll see you every week." He could not accept this idea. I understood his message. I just wanted minutes of play and I opted for Schalke on loan.
Let us evoke your youth a little. Tell me about your childhood ...
I did two-three months in jail (laughs) ... No, my youth was quiet. I was all the time in football, all the time. I played with my brother in soccer. Studies, I was null, not concerned at all. I was in sport-studies and I was only waiting for the time to go to football. In my head, it was football or nothing. At college, already, I was thinking of becoming a footballer. I stood in the classroom, because they were putting on glasses during football.
At 22, do you regret some choices in your career?
No, if I had this power, I would not change anything.
You already have a great experience. What are your goals and where are your limits?
Raising trophies, these are my goals. I want to reach a very large European club. Having goals slammed, it's useless. I do not know my limits and I hope I never know them.

I think that pretty much confirms what we assumed the situation was. I personally think Pochettino hasn't handled a very talented and potentially very valuable asset very well, but I also appreciate that sometimes with human beings in any working environment, especially football, these kind of situations will arise. Fucking shame.

Every story like this has two sides, and this is certainly a different side to the one I was told.

I think he can have a good partnership with wanyama. I think Poch needs to start Winks more often to replace Bentaleb's role. Dembele+ Wanyama is not a very good idea in terms of controlling the tempo

i think we're going to need to invest in a central midfielder soon.
Why?

Dier, wanyama, dembele, winks

When onamah grows out of his Bambi phase think we'll see some crazy potential

I don't think we need any more pure cm for now. It's the folks just in front that need checking
