Tottenham Hotspur are considering a €44million bid for Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard this summer. [France Football]

This would make sense. Rather than Stuttgart wait until next year and lose him to a league opponent for cheap, they could meet in the middle on his release fee for next year and what they value him at currently and sell him outside of the league.

No they just got that from TeamTalk.
Yeah their piece says nothing of their own reports. Even the headline questions if the move is real. They just took the Mirror, Kicker, and TeamTalk Pavard stories circulating and collated it into a single rumor piece. Saying they are reporting anything is a gross abuse of language.

Herc said there is truth in this. He would massively soften losing Toby, far more suited to our centre back splitting system than any other we’ve been linked with.

23 fucking days :X3::X3::X3::X3:

Not long to go now, might even make sky sports deadline day coverage interesting for a change!!

On Pavard, seems a decent defender, good on the ball, but not really that great physically. Don't know how he would cope in the PL, and not knocking him on one performance, but Perisic completely destroyed him in the WC final and he's not a particularly quick/skillfully/physical winger.

Seems like a Foyth type player, and we already have him so would rather have a De Ligt/Lascelles type of defender.

In fairness, Pavard was playing out of positon as a fullback in Deschamps’ bizarre back four formation with absolutely no defensive help from Mbappe in front of him on the wing. And, to make matters worse, he apparently was still asked to provide a lot of the width on the right when France was in possession. So I wouldn’t say that Perisic exposed any particular lack of quality.

That said, the jump from Stuttgart to CL and top level EPL football is a significant one, and he would need to learn a new system. He is, to use the American football parlance, a bit of a “Tweener” right now—not strong enough to hold up as a center half in the EPL, in my opinion, but not quick enough to be a true fullback. He does seem to have more pace than Dier, which is a positive. Has shown flashes of real skill on a the ball. Could be a nice fit as an RCB in a back three formation. I just don’t know if he has “elite” potential in that position given his somewhat underwhelming physical profile. And, by the way, all of the above is also true for Foyth.

But at the end of the day, my real concern is that his fee will be grossly excessive. Selling Alderweireld for 55M and buying Pavard for 40M does very little to improve the squad, or the squad’s finances in any respect.

Anyone got betting odds on we're interested in him but our interest is only coming up now to shuffle Bayern along and make them pay more for him now rather than wait until next summer?

We are the kings of new contracts confirmed normally, perhaps we're branching out?

I've read somewhere that he has a £31m (35m Euros) release clause that kicks in next summer. They might find themselves in a similar situation to what we do with Toby where they sell him a little on the cheap so they don't get their pants pulled down

Surely this is where Hugo is having a word!!

If we're interested, Hugo's definitely in his ear about it. With Tottenham players representing the club so well this summer, its only going to help our chances to attract excellent young talent that want to be a part of the ride,

Pavard, Sanchez & Foyth as our future CB options. That'll take some beating

It's a tricky one but if both cost roughly the same and Pavard has 4 years of him, as well as a World Cup winning medal I think he's a safer signing to make

i thought he was stand out in the WC. really noted him for speed and strength, also pressing, stamina and energy and a few great attempts on goal apart from that goal. i thought i would love to see him at Spurs.
probably no chance then lol
