Tottenham eyeing World Cup 2018 star Benjamin Pavard if Toby Alderweireld leaves this summer

France's probable World Cup final right-back is actually best at centre-half, can also cover midfield and is the right age

France defender Benjamin Pavard will be on Tottenham's short-list to replace Toby Alderweireld.

The Stuttgart man has shone for Didier Deschamps during this World Cup, and will offer Mauricio Pochettino an option if, as is widely anticipated, Alderweireld moves onin the next few weeks.

Pavard has been played at right-back by Sunday's World Cup finalists, and scored one of the goals of the tournament from there in Les Bleus' last-16 win over Argentina, but he is better known in the Bundesliga as a centre-half.

That appeals to Pochettino.

Pavard, who has also been used as a makeshift midfielder during his time with Stuttgart, was one of only four players to feature in every second of their last campaign.

He signed a long-term deal last December that ties him to the German club for the next three seasons.

However, Spurs would have cash to play with if Alderweireld leaves and at 22 Pavard fits the age profile favoured by chairman Daniel Levy.

I keep hearing Bayern have all but signed him but in terms of style, he seems to suit replacing Alderweireld like for like the most but I'd be keen to risk De Ligt myself.

Does seem a lot like a Poch player, hopefully he won’t get snapped up by the bigger boys.

Agree. But I wonder how much of an improvement he might be on Foyth? Haven’t seen enough of him to know. But given the wealth of talent the French squad contains, he’s more than holding his own, just by simply holding his place!

Regardless, Toby situation needs closure soon. I’d be seriously concerned if he leaves late in the window and we are left without a chair when the music stops.

Think we'd struggle to convince him to come. Being already based in Germany and having the option of Bayern the following season will be hard to compete with.

Do you have a source for that, I've never heard of him before.
Ugh. That's fucking annoying to find because there's so much news around him and us now it's hard to find the old stuff. I remember links popping up after the January transfer window.

Gimme a sec.

So the earliest I can find are links from Bild and links from the Sun from March.

He got the nod over some good players to secure a World Cup berth.

Seems to have an eye for a decent pass from deep. Would be more than happy with his acquisition.

I've been impressed by him - only 22 and can play several positions - is a no-brainer for me.

Also as @wirE stated at the start of the thread I thought there was a thread on him here earlier, so it was either deleted or there were discussions about him elsewhere.

Edit: Figured it out. There were a bunch of discussions about him in the Transfer Wishlist thread.
