We actually sell things to Ben’s aunty in work lovely family,

I’ve also been lucky to meet him twice bright nice guy, last time to be fair he actually came over to us to stroke the dog.

As for a football I know from the Wales camp side of it Ben actually can play in 4 positions he can play defensive midfield....and in fact almost very nearly made an appearance there for Wales not so long back when Allen was out apparently very good there.

He’s not the best player as he lacks that bit of pace but what you won’t get from him is moaning and a lack of intelligence.

He will also always give 100% and walk through a war with you, people are forgetting he played almost the entirety of last season and the season before with a groin injury then last year he was carrying a hernia problem from very early on and playing under pain management we forget he made a lot of people want to sell Danny rose.

He will be back to his best this season he would be a starting left back for 17 other teams in the league so I do not understand the lack of respect for him.

Only left backs better than him are rose when fit and firing, Robertson and Mendy.

Weird one isn’t it mate, surely it’ll be doing longer term damage, I get carrying on if it means a possible once in a career op to play in CL final or World Cup but otherwise just have the op surely!

As for this one he played for Wales because his country needed him he asked could he play it wasn’t a pressure decision Ben wanted to play.

Sounds like a top lad and looks that way too. I'd keep him and rose personally, RB is a bigger problem area.

Yep, he’s a nice guy very quiet and unassuming.

He’s also one of those that doesn’t like the limelight one thing I also didn’t know about him until recently is how much he gives back to helping his team he played for when a child always sending signed stuff apparently etc.

It’s a funny one as I don’t really like him as a player. But he’s grown on me!

He may not be the most fleet of foot, but, at his best, Davies possesses a speed of thought that more than makes up for it. Indeed, his first-time pass to Sonny to cross it for our sixth against Everton was probably my favourite moment of the first half of the season.

Yet it was his contribution to our CL run that really stands out.

We don't make the knock-out stages unless he puts in the run and makes the cross for Kane's winner against PSV. In the early stages of the game in Dortmund, it was Davies who ran across the penalty area to put in a vital block against Weigl in the right-back area. And, although it's lost in the celebrations of Moura's goal, Dele's flick, Nando's header and Sissoko's punt, none of this happens unless Davies wins the ball back in the first place.

Ben Davies is a very fine footballer indeed. I can't wait for him to be fully fit this season and, at 26, he should be coming into his prime as a defender.

LCB in a 3 is where I see his future, he's got the pace for that position but not a LWB or advanced LB. What the contract really shows is that professionalism and hard work are rewarded and BD is all of that, it may well be that he will be sold in the future but he's earned this contract and fair play to him

What on Earth am I reading in this thread right now...only left backs better than Davies are Robertson, Mendy, and a fit Rose? What simulated reality are people living in where the Premier League and world football is down to 3 teams?

I'm happy Ben has signed his contract, he's a perfect second LB, great human, loyal player, will challenge whoever is the starting LB and keep them on their toes...but that line above took my brain to the cleaners.

Ben is also just about to enter his peak years. Because he plays with such maturity it’s hard to think he’s only 26. The next 5 years he will get better and better in terms of his reading of the game and game management.

It seemed reasonably obvious to me that he meant in the PL.

The beauty is that because his game isn't reliant on lightning pace his performance levels shouldn't drop off a cliff when he hits his 30's. He'll never be the most dynamic fullback in the world but he's steady, defensively astute and versatile.

Love the guy, give some his all every game, is he a world beater no, but there is very few weaknesses or mistakes in his game. Top pro and happy to see his new contract signed.

Personally, I think he just gets on with the job at hand without much fanfare. Not a great deal to complain about, there.
Not a glamorous player, but solid and versatile. Thats hardly a bad thing. Also it boggles that he’s only 26. He seems much more mature than that.
Happy to keep him at the club as there’s literally no reason to sell him.

Probably because over the last 3 seasons he has played more games than Rose, scored more often and creates just as many chances as Danny. Plus he is a better and more adaptable defender.
He's most definitely not a better defender than Danny Rose. Rose also bring much more to our attack than Davies does and is simply an overall better player.

Depends how you look at it in terms of attacking output. Rose is great at progressing the ball upfield, but his main attacking output is drawing fouls. Davies is a better passer and crosser, but not as well suited as Rose was to our more chaotic and uncontrolled game this year.

A load of Bollocks. Davies is dependable and good back up LB and deserves to be retained with a new contract, that's all

Let’s not forget he played most of the season carrying an injury. Seems he wasn’t the only one too.

He tries hard and rarely lets us down. If injury free and he gets back to the form that pushed him in front of Rose a couple of years ago then great.

When you watch Robertson or TAA, and then compare their attacking and defensive/athletic performances to Davies’ own, it can be a bit difficult to see him playing any major role for this team long term. I don’t really understand what giving Ben a “long-term” contract achieves and seems counter intuitive when looking at the Ndombele acquisition.

If the game of football decided the winner by how many ‘signed shin pads’ players sent to their old school, then fine, keep Ben, make him the captain. But it isn’t. Ben needs to be able to cross the ball in his role as a wingback, and he rarely achieves this feat. He doesn’t really play second fiddle as fullbacks are rotated in Poch’s team. As such he’s not up to the standard this new team, in its billion-pound stadium, with the highest prices in the league, requires.

If however, the management are tying him down to a deal to retain his sale value and make do for another season, I can live with that but for me, Davies rotating the LWB position long-term is not going to win us any trophies.

This is honestly such an unecessary shit post, you could have cut out half the derogatory nonsense and still got your point across. As stated many times Davies is a dependable LB, still improving, can also play CB, never complains and going by the end of the season where Poch ended up picking Rose as first choice I think he will end up being backup anyway.

Also worth noting that Liverpool's back up option last season was Moreno, City's was Fabian Delph...youre telling me they're any better than Davies?

You're criticising the club for handing out a new contract yet you have no idea what his role is going to be and you're ready to dismiss him...
