Don’t see much that Barrios offers that Skipp won’t by the time Poch would actually play him post Jan-signing in Aug 2019. Rather keep the 20m towards a bid for De Jong/N’dombele/Labatka/Rabiot etc even if we don’t succeed

We are an Eric Dier injury away from being totally powderpuff in midfield, Wanyama seems to have gone the way of Sandro and Palacios.
Exactly this- Dier also covers at CB so two DMs would be required for our system with both getting game time over a campaign. Shame for big Vic but we have to plan ahead if he’s done at this level

doubt any of those would join in January, and if anything happened to Dier we wouldn't have anyone to step in, or to replace him if he needed to cover at CB

with the Poch won't play him? by the sounds of it he has energy to burn, played in the WC and has played the majority of league games for his team so far. if you are basing that comment on Moura, when he joined us last season he had only played 79mins of football in half a season, and cup games, so was never going to be match fit when he joined

Unfortunately Wanyama has physical issues ?
That’s very sad. Such a nice character and looked great first season, so physically strong and tidy. I was hoping he would get back to his beast best this season- but maybe should no longer hold a torch

An Argentinan Radio station has been reporting in last 24 hours as well apparently. Seems quite a lot of smoke if there’s no fire.

The only possible upside to this rumour is that none of our competitors in any competition would be the slightest bit interested in him.

usually like to see [insert player name] vs videos on youtube as they give the best representation of a player. There are plenty on Barrios, as he's seen as a cult figure for Boca. Most of the games i've seen in the Argentinean League are okay, nothing that I think warrants our interest but it was his game against Barca that impressed me the most in the pre-season. Didn't seem to let the quality of the opposition faze him and tbh could be a reason why he's touted to do well in a better league

Not sure why there's so much clamour for a Dembele replacement with Winks playing the way he is. Feel like he's establishing himself as the fulcrum of our midfield as Dembele's Spurs career is winding down. And with Wanyama struggling physically, Amos out for the season and with Poch using a 4-3-3 variant at times this season I think a midfielder of Barrios' profile coming in makes a lot of sense.

I presume because
1. We need more than 3 centre mids
2. Winks has still got someway to be at the level people are talking about
3. Winks is unfortunately extremely prone to injury, hes only been back 3 games

Plus if 433 is the answer, we need more than Barrios to replace Dembele and Wanyama.

If you remove Dembele and Wanyama from the equation our midfield options if using a 3 would be:

Winks, Barrios, Dier, Dele, Eriksen, Sissoko, Amos, Skipp.

Good blend of technical ability and athleticism in that group if you ask me. Don't agree that Winks is "someway" off as well. Pre and post injury he's been excellent. Don't think any of the midfielders in our price range who play his role are guaranteed to be better than him.

Skipp?? a kid who's never played for the first team??

I'm not fond of boca players, but this comparison is ridiculous. Barios offers a lot more than Skipp right now

This is how myths begin. Hasn't he had just one serious injury plus complications from that one injury?

Strange deal if true at the price mentioned. In May we were linked at his release clause of £12-14 million pounds if im not mistaken. Its also then rumours of Wanyama's injury surfaced and he was up for sale.

That's one way of seeing it. Another is that he has a chronic problem which kept him out for the last two months of the season in which it originated, the entire second half of the season thereafter, and which everyone seems to acknowledge will never completely go away.

I rate Winks but it would be incredibly risky to have him as the only midfielder of his type in the squad. There's more than enough room for a genuine Dembele replacement as well.
