Ross Barkley would be willing to join a London club in the summer if Everton decide to sell him, despite suggestions he prefers to stay in the north of England.

I would say he offers more genuine competition than anyone else in our current squad to compete with dele or Eriksen in the starting line up.

Perhaps there are better options out there though.

yeah !
Harry Winks
Winks could be a great player and I'd love him to emulate the style of Modric but he doesn't really operate in the final third in the way Eriksen or dele does, hence Barkley offering that different kind of threat.

He's had a good season, I'd be all for us signing him if possible

He flatters to deceive perhaps. Thought he would be as good as a young Scholes but it hasn't happened. Guess it depends how much of a footballing brain he has and whether he's prepared to work much harder at Spurs.

Not against it. Fits profile - deal to be done in last year of contract, premier league experience, English, under 25. Vaguely uninspiring but would certainly give us options.

I think he's good player and would definitely strengthen us but the stumbling block may be the price. I read 35m quoted somewhere and to me that's too much. He's not signed a new contract and I just wonder, given how Everton allegedly matched our bid for Sissoko, some sort of swap deal might be on the cards.

Everton are not going to even think about touching Sissoko after the amazing season he has had for us...

Won't be that high as his contract runs out next year.

I've seen a lot of negative views about this guy, which I do understand, but I have to say I think there's a very good player in there that with the right coaching could be special.

He's an absolute brute for a start, and the physical strength of our side is as unusual (relative to previous sides) as it is welcome - he's add to that.

But more importantly, I think he's a very technically accomplished player, capable of playing in CM and AM, with a great shot, a nice touch and a good pass.

If Poch wants him and sees something in him, at 23 he has the time to develop him into an excellent player. I'd be excited by this personally.

Can't think who I'd want to drop or sideline to accommodate Barkley. IMO Winks has everything we need (for free) and any money we'd spend on Barkley could be better spent elsewhere. I don't think he'll be that cheap either with a whole load of clubs interested.

If the price is good due to having a year left on his contract, I think he would be a good buy.

I don't see him as an attacker as he's not good enough around the box but I can see Poch moulding him into a Dembele style midfielder which I think would suit him and he would replace Sissoko, who I think we will sell before we pay too many installments to Newcastle. Thus I would see him as Dembeles back-up/future replacement rather than someone who would immediately be in the first XI.

Only thing is, looking at what is coming from himself and Everton, I have the feeling this may all be negotiating tactics for his new Everton contract. But if we can force one of our competitors to spend more on wages, I don't see that as a bad thing.

He's a mega money signing now with all the typical over hype you get with young English talent.

Spurs don't do mega money signings like this. They get there cheaply before the hype starts or they leave it for the richer clubs.

Is that surely not a model we're trying to move beyond? For the right situation anyway.

And for a kid in the last year of his contract, I'm not sure this would be a mega money deal, and I'm not sure we're buying the kind of world star your'e alluding to - we're getting a work in progress.

Obviously price is everything

Not sure Barkley could come anywhere near defensive contribution Dembele offers.

Not sure Barkley could come anywhere near defensive contribution Dembele offers.

Not saying he would, Dembele is obviously the superior player. But he is 30 next Summer and we sorely miss him when he doesn't play, I would see Barkley as a squad player being groomed for that role.

Remember when Dembele joined us from Fulham he was more of an attacking midfielder than he is now and most players seem to offer more of a defensive contribution after working with Poch than before. I think Poch would see Barkley as more of a work in progress who has some good abilities rather than a finished article.

Anyway, probably a Moot point. I believe that there will be lots of agent talk and rumours until Everton inevitably offer a better contract, at which point Barkley will sign it say he's a toffee for life, loves the club and kisses the badge etc etc.
