We don't sign players, first & foremost, for the here and now.
He could definitely still sign in august.

Exactly. He won't be fit till the end of October. Why not wait a further couple of months at which time he would have only 6 months left on his contract.

Because he might be fit sooner, and even if hes not, he will bed in to the squad, get to know his team mates and their way of playing and Poch's training methods and style. When he then is fit, he will slot into the first team more easily.

Bad news for Everton to be honest....they'd be daft not to compromise on price now

I think if we want Barkley we should pay an agreed fee and be done with it there no point trying to low ball.

The injury should not alter our attitude to what is a long-term signing. If we want him go and get him. Come January other richer clubs could be in for him.

I'm not convinced. Players pushing for a move often get vague injuries that mysteriously clear up a week after they've moved. Anyone remember Berbatov or Bale? Whether Everton will sell at a sane price is another question.
