Remember seeing this kid play on TV !
Didn't realise he was so young,

He had a big Michael Jackson Afro and loads of skill to go with it.

Glowing praise from Sherwood:

"Currently in the academy at Spurs there is a 15-year-old, Marcus Edwards, who is already playing for England Under-17s. He is the kind of player who, as a coach, makes you look forward to walking out on to that pitch in the morning. Everyone in development football has heard of Marcus. He is a gifted technician with a low centre of gravity, who can pass off either foot or dribble past opponents.

When I was at Spurs, I would persuade anyone and everyone at the training ground to come over to see him train. He is a joy to watch. Again, he is the kind of player who might not always get a game. There might be a bigger boy who could be more effective on that given day, but in time Marcus has the potential to be a great player, a make-the-difference footballer. He can win you a game. These are the kind of talented players that we must not neglect."

this lad should hopefully be our next talent, would be great to have a lad like this on the bench in cup games and if in a comfy position in the match give him 20-30 mins.

Hopefully some more will break through before hin

At his age he still has time before he gets to the first team level

I agree with the "if you're good enough you're old enough" saying but equally I don't think young talents should be rushed before they're ready and their development needs to be well managed

I hope there are more coming through before him but yes I agree - I hope in time he becomes a top class player for us, he seems a very exciting young player

going back 40yrs I could name our reg u21's, reserve team, and our 1st team, unfortunately now days I don't know much about our squads below, and due not having the time to read as much as some do on this site have never got round to following our youth team threads.

but as you said "if good enough, you're old enough". perhaps now days development does need to be managed, but if he has got that something special (age of Wayne Rooney), that even those above him haven't quite got, you could actually stop his development, and help someone pinch him for pennies, because they are willing to give him a chance.

He is very small though. He is of course really talented the best English player in his age group and one of the best in Europe he looked the best player in the recent Euro u17s. However, whereas Rooney was quite filled out at the age, Edwards is still small relative to his own age group.

contract duration?

Waiting for him to sign his first year scholar papers for next year. Around 6 have confirmed waiting on another 6/7. Then he can sign a pro contract when he turns 17.

So currently he is not secured apart from what we believe to be gentlemans agreement between top academies in England not to poach each others players.

You're not wrong about the development being well managed, but it can go either way, particularly with prodigies. Think of it in educational terms, sometimes you have talent that needs to be fast tracked, otherwise they stagnate. It's a fine line really, but that's where the coaching staff really earn their coin.

I know absolutely nothing about this kid, but it would be great if we had another Hoddle type on the books. He got his debut at 17 iirc, as did Rooney and Giggs.

Sometimes you need to give these talents a taster to see how they handle the opportunity.

It would be fantastic if we really did have a prodigy on the books once again.
