If it is true that Utd have bid, it may flush out a few others who are apparently interested like City and ourselves

I have never really seen it with AWB. He is decent but never really caught my eye. There is a reason though some big clubs want him but 50m or so seems a fair bit for him.

I quite like my defenders to be like that in fairness. Get the job done with a minimum of fuss, defend first, attack later. He’s got all the attributes for that, but like others have said, it’s a lot of money (more than we will spend without a million and one clauses) and there must be cheaper alternatives out there. But as we’ve seen, it’s difficult to find top level fullbacks that can do everything. To get one you have to spend a lot of money or scout amazingly well and almost luck out.

Probably shouldn't have signed that contract without a release clause, very short sighted of him
Exactly that.

Zaha has taken extremely bad advice and is now shackled to Palace. Any complaint he may have should be directed toward his agent who manoeuvred him into the contract he signed. He can’t complain about Palace making use of the situation he himself has created.

Agents are one of the biggest problems in football today. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some stricter regulation of their activities because it nothing but a feeding frenzy at the moment. Their presence feeds into the reduction in power that clubs have over their players. We can’t blame a club for using any advantage they have, especially one that’s been handed to them.

It’s unfortunate for Zaha that he has an agent that, through the pursuit of short-term gain, has hobbled his client’s long-term interests. Therein lies one of the problems agents pose in modern football.

If AWB’s options are more open, be that through better advice or any other consideration, Zaha really isn’t in a position to complain.

You lot talking like Zaha is a prisoner.

His last contract makes him one if the highest paid players in the league at 130k a week. That's quite the security blanket for him and his familiy.

If his top priority was to move clubs then every single football player knows signing a new deal is rarely the way to go about it. Agent or no agent.

It’s not saying he’s a prisoner - it’s saying that his recent contract has reduced his options should he wish to move, particularly in comparison with AWB.

We’re talking in relative terms rather than absolute.

Some more terrific planning from United, sign Dalot who was regarded by them as one the biggest talents for his age in europe and then proceed to then attempt to spunk 60 mill on more potential instead of developing what they have. Theyre either going to waste talent or waste money.

They should be going after somebody in their late 20s who dalot can learn from and has experience not having two expensive signings at the stage of their career, In my opinion anyway.

You make it sound like his agent got Zaha's arm behind his back and forced him to sign the contract. IMO it's just as likely that Zaha had a 130k contract stuck under his nose and couldn't resist the wonga.

He's not a prisoner in anyway. Though, if it's true that he wants to move to a bigger club etc then he's a fucking idiot considering the contract he signed.

Agree. I get the feeling that he signed the new contract for a) more money and b) to bring in a substantial amount of money for palace when they come to sell him. However i get the impression that clubs are put off by the amount palace have potentially quoted for him, putting zaha in a situation whereby he could be stuck there for atleast another couple of years.

The money being touted, he'll be the most expensive fullback in world football, at 21 ...

Really?

If that's the impression I gave, it wasn't intentional. However, that issue isn't the main point.

The main point is that Zaha's options are limited by the contract he signed, whether he's done so in an informed manner or otherwise. The point is that, should he wish to (and there's no assumption that he would - merely speaking hypothetically) he has no real grounds to complain about Palace's behaviour if they choose to sell AWB and not him - the reason being that he signed a contract that gives Palace more power in determining whether he can move on than he might otherwise have.

The generally accepted consensus is that the signing of the new contract was very much at the urging of his agent, rather than Palace trying to tie him down. However, even if it was Palace's initiative, his agent should have been aware of the noises Zaha has made with regard to playing in the Champions League and negotiated a contract that gave his client options in the case of a CL club coming in for him. That's what an agent is supposed to do: look after their client's interests.

The final possibility is that Zaha doesn't want to move and is happy to stay at Palace, which is, of course, his prerogative. In which case, he's unlikely to complain about Palace selling AWB in any case.

I got the impression that when he signed his 130k contract he was very much taken with being by far the biggest fish in a small pond. I think it was a bad decision on his part which he seems to be regretting now. We've chased him for a couple of years now and he hasn't really made any moves to help us so IMO we should move on. Whether that's his doing or his agent's is open for debate but I just think we've messed about long enough.

On the subject of AWB, Man Utd seem interested so I expect them to bid ridiculous money in both fee and wages.

Oh, absolutely. I've no burning desire for us to chase Zaha. If Poch wants him and we can get him, fine. If not, just as fine. My comment was more about his situation in comparison with AWB's.

Yeah, I reckon he'll be at Old Trafford next season too.

If Utd is after him, I am sure we will be too. And where will he want to go? The only thing United can offer at the moment is wages. They are a FAR bigger club than us, yes but there also in a dilapidated state with a manager whose days have got to be very numbered unless they get off to a hot start.

Palace can go fuck themselves giddy if they think 60 million is a fair valuation. He’s only been around one season the silly scrotums
He is one of the best young RB’s in England, alot more growth to come and he’s HG. In today’s market, it’s probably not that far off.

What does that mean for the price of our England international right back...
