Seems like they're really struggling to get deals over the line, I don't know who's on their negotiations team or who's leading it but something is seriously wrong.

Saw my mate on Thursday (season ticket holder) and told me that they knew about our long standing interest in Saliba a long time ago and he thought they signed him to keep him away from us, it shouldn't have got to this point as they should have got it done on Thursday.

Absolutely mental the state the club is in, either Wenger let it rot for so long or they have just been utterley careless in transition, I don't really rate Emery but he's on a hiding to nothing there.
I think it's a bit of both. Wenger had so much of a rule over everything there that naturally some aspects would just become neglected or left to stagnate. He should have taken a leaf from Fergie's book and delegated some aspects. You can't coach, manage players, manage negotiations, manage recruitment and everything else he had a control over and not see some aspects become gradually effected.

The transition has then in turn been handled appallingly. Emery was not their first pick and by all accounts, I don't even think he was on their short-list - that's pretty telling. There's an article showing what a state of confusion they have within their recruitment/director of football set-up (too many cooks) - actually, you may have posted it - which just highlights their lack of planning.

From speaking to the person I work with, and without trying to give up too much information, I sensed that Emery wasn't the most influential coach to work with/for, he's very heavy on the video analysis side of things and trying to get players to operate within positions (AVB style), which can work very well when it clicks but the problem is it can be so rigid that it's hard to adjust when the game changes.

I think Emery is one of those coaches who if the set-up behind him is favourable, then he can make things work but if there are issues with the players or within the clubs organisation he's not an influencer or leader who can inspire change. I believe if Poch or Klopp were there you'd see a very committed and well-drilled team, who may lack on quality but would have a better mentality. Luckily they don't.

Makes sense that Emery is so set in his ways, it took him six months to start playing their two best players at the same time because he initially refused to play a system with two strikers.

That annual shitfest called The Emirates Cup/Trophy/tournament must be dying the death.

It was always rigged for the Goons to win it but two weeks tomorrow (28th) it will be just two matches..

The first is a Bayern Munich Women's match followed by a match against Olympique Lyonnais.

.. and that's your lot.

Spanish AVB is the perfect description of him, good tactician but doesn't have the personality, charisma or man management to succeed.

I'd say three EL titles with Sevilla is pretty successful. But I understand what you mean.

Wouldn’t say AVB yet. AVB had rich boy Chelsea and then us and managed to make them both boring, in the case of Chelsea just more boring that normal.

Emery is difficult to judge as the club he is managing is such a total mess, while at the same time rivals such as us and certainly Liverpool and Man City leave them for dust. Even if he was to perform well in respect to the team he has, the team he has at its best next season may only be capable of 5/6th finish. If Emery fails he can always say I wasn’t backed in the current circumstances. Arsenal may have no hope, it’s tragic.

With Emery at the wheel they lost their first two games last season but then went on that unbeaten run against run of the mill side plus part-timers and farmers in cup competions.

I can see him being in trouble if it starts bad and is looking grim after a few months.

There will be such a backlash from their now fickle fans. A bonfire of the redshirts.

Thing is in their current situation Emery is about as good as they are going to get, anyone going to Arsenal will know they don’t have a pot to piss in.

Supposedly he is injured or recovering from an injury so they're waiting.

26 days of the window to go and they haven't brought in one major signing and haven't offloaded anyone they want out.

To make matters worse for them we are hijacking their biggest potential signing so far.......an 18-year-old with limited professional experience!!

I reckon they'll get Tierney and that'll be about all.

They've been linked to some players who should be obtainable - Ziyech, Fekir, Carassco, etc - none of these would break the bank but for whatever reason their interest dies just as it looks like a goer which implies that the club can't afford to spend 30m on a single player.

I mean, we’ve only made one And haven’t sold any deadwood. Let’s not get too carried away and see where we all are on 8th August.

True, you are correct. But we do seem to be making progress and the mutterings are positive.

Other than Janssen & Nkodou I wouldn't really class the rest of our wantaways as deadwood. If Trippier, Aurier, Wanyama are still here by the 8th then it wouldn't be the end of the world. Arsenal's problem is their deadwood are generally big players in very important positions Mustafi, Ozil, Koscielny, etc

Their fans actually believe they’ve bid €80m for Pepe when they can barely scrape together the cash for Tierney.

Oh yeah I agree. I was just pointing out we’ve only made one first team signing compared to their none. I know we have lots going on in the background but none of them are signed yet and last summer isn’t as distant a memory for me as it is for some ?. I don’t follow their transfer activity other than on here so they could be in a similar position on a few other signings for all I know.

Arse mania seems to firmly believe there going to sign them both and Saliba and Zaha. It’s really funny.

See, this is why I’m going to enjoy my time of them not being as good as us. As I’ve said for 12 months, their fans won’t be able to deal with a decline and especially with not being as good as us. A lot of them have only known success under Wenger so failing to get top 4 or win a trophy is alien to them.

They are a strange fan base too because of this, a lot of their fans in the last 20 years are there because of their success rather than having an emotional or family tie to the club, which makes a lot of difference to the hard times. I bet lots jump ship if things don’t improve. Let’s just hope it’s not to us!

It isn't just us they need to be wary off. Everton, Wolves, and potentially others could over take them. They could find themselves down at 8th or 9th unless they have a good transfer window. I suspect they need to sell one of Aubameyang or Lacazette to fund any significant (and then be successful) buys or be prepared to drift down the table.
