In reality they’d be better off selling Lacazette. They really aren’t in a position to have a £50m striker as a substitute.

It's costing Arsenal something like £440,000 a week in wages for Lacazette and Ozill alone. That seems like a very big outlay for two players who are hardly guaranteed starters at a club playing in the Europa League.

Eyezil (geddit) is on £350K a week, is Lacazette only on £90K?

It can't be good for team spirit to see you star player fannying around while earning 4 times as much.

Why is there such an apparently large queue for Ramsay?! Hugely inconsistent player, despite occasional moments of brilliance. Agent talk?

I thought he was on £300k a week but your £350,000 figure may be right. In which case it would be £490,000 for the pair based on the reported wage of £140,000 for Lacazette, although I have seen some reports of that being higher too. Either way it seems like crazy money.

Emery said they have no money and can only do loans this window ? seriously where is their money. Maybe Kroenke has totally prioritised the Rams and the stadium. I wonder if this really could be a serious decline to mid table.

To be honest, I don't know how they spent on Auba and Lacazette in the first place. This article indicated that their profits had fallen by 60% when they missed CL. They are now facing the prospect of a 3rd year outside of CL. They're just another mid-table club right now, and though their matchday and sponsorship numbers are going to be higher than a club like West Ham, they've also got a massive wage bill.

I honestly think they're on borrowed time. Their first XI is ancient, and though some of their youngsters are progressing, a Xhaka/Guendouzi/Torrera/Iwobi/Kolasinc core isn't exactly going to be challenging for anything.

The thing that might save them (well, halt the free-fall at 6th place) is the fact that traditionally no club outside of the top 6 has consistently challenged for a top 6 place.

Everton and Southampton have flirted with it, on and off, and all the rest are relegation-fodder.

Because their budget is bigger than the teams below them, you'd think that they'd be 'best of the rest' for many years to come.

They sold off Oxlade-Chamberlain in August 2017 for £35 million which made a massive difference for their first year out of the CL, they probably can't do that every year the way things are now with their squad.

*Edit*
This is the sort of money they are losing - I know we have talked about on here before ..

The Europa brings in revenue but nothing like the CL riches, for years I wanted to see their funding drop.
Long may it continue.

The Goons are outraged and astounded with this 'no money' situation when they thought they lived in the promised land..

Its a warning sign. Something that Levy has been trying to explain for a while. Its why the new stadium is something of a genius move. Hopefully fans will visit earlier, leave later, and spend more. This in turn increases income growth, and pay higher wages.
I was all for paying eriksen the money he wants. TBH I still am because hes that good...but levy is right, and trust him compared to arsenals owners to keep us on a healthy footing. £1 Chelsea were a joke. Arsenal are reaping the rewards of their europa league success :D and we've had financial problems in the past.
We cant keep up with a doped club like man city because of the "special" sponsorship "deals"they use. But we can grow the club, bigger global presence etc, and keep a firm grip on the wage structure. I'd hate to lose poch, i'd be distraught. But rather that than like arsenal break the bank with over inflated wages. Sustainability, and growth has to be the way to the future.

Add mkhytarian to that wage bill he must be on close to £150k. They need a minor miracle to get back in top 4. There only real chance is basically if they do what we did find some great youth a few £20m buys that come very good and an exceptional manager. Can’t say I’d be putting a lot of money on it. Conversely the likes of Everton Wolves West Ham Leicester going past them is a very real possibility.

Thanks for the article

I totally get that the lack of CL revenue is a huge blow; I just think the size of their fanbase, their large stadium and London presence will give them the revenue to finish above the 'smaller' clubs below them.

It's a bit like our stature in the 90s. We were a shambles on the pitch and poorly run off it, but we still had bigger revenues than most in the league, because of our traditionally large/larger fanbase. I know football's changed financially since then, but I still think the same theory applies.

What may happen, however, is that they're miles off the CL places in seasons to come, caught in a reoccurring purgatory of 6th place.

PS I hope you're right and I'm wrong btw (y)
