It's tricky for him because he obviously doesn't really want to invest in the team and while he probably doesn't really care where they finish in pure footballing terms, if they continually finish outside the CL places then eventually it'll start to hurt Kroenke in the pocket as well.

I suppose it comes down to how you interpret the situation. While you see a weakened Chelsea and Man Utd as an opportunity for Arsenal to invest and capitalise on that weakness, maybe Kroenke sees a weakened Chelsea and Man Utd as an opportunity to get top 4 without needing to invest much.

Yeah I'd thought that as well - that is a fair point

If they can get him at £15m then that's a steal, suspect it will be a bit more though - even then anything under £25m for him is pretty good.

Not sure where that leaves the rest of their budget in the summer, they can only spend around £30m more although I think they will ty and recoup that via sells and getting players off the wage bill.

I'd love to share the optimism that they are on a one way ticket to mid table, but find it unlikely at the moment. Despite their squad mostly resembling a bunch of also-rans, they were basically level with us this season and could easily have ended up taking 4th. Plus despite their abysmal performance in the final they still made it to the EL final. I don't see Wolves or Leicester catching them up - would need to see some evidence of that being likely first.

the thing is have they got a player that can replace Ramsey?

he won them a lot of points in 1 way or another. I know I'll be happy not seeing him play against us next season, he was the only player that looked like he was fitted with duracell. he will be a massive miss for them, just like he was when they failed to get past us

Dunno if anyone is aware or if this has been posted already but I’ve been bed ridden since a car accident & noticed a YouTube rivalry between MrDT & a fella who looks like Zoidberg from Futurama (Arsenal’s Realist). Gotta say I’m loving the in house fighting & troubles. Reckon it’ll get a lot worse before it gets better. Check it out people.

I get what you're saying but a massive part of that was us having a complete meltdown towards the end of the season. Our squad was stretched really thin in certain positions especially and so we were overplaying players which just led to more injuries and knackered out the ones who weren't injured. As a result we had a period where we dropped loads of points and fell close to Arsenal's level. If it hadn't been for our injury/squad situation and that poor run of form we'd have finished miles ahead of them.

Looking at next season, admittedly this is based entirely on rumours, but it's looking like we're going to improve our squad significantly meanwhile they're not showing signs of being any better.

It is my belief that clubs like Arsenal =Ozil and united Sanches having paid massive wages to these players because they were out of contract have made dangerous errors because these players are now almost impossible to move on .
Other clubs may want them and be willing to pay a transfer fee but these type of characters are not willing to take a pay cut therefore making them almost impossible to move out.
This situation impacts FFP also other players see these players stroll thru games but get maybe 3 or 4 times the wage they earn and this is not what will improve team morale and all in all a road I hope we never contemplate going down.

Agree. I think both deals have served as a warning to other clubs about the dangers of that way of doing things. I think eventually they'll move both players on to save face but the reality will be that they're still making up the difference in the wages for the duration of the contract. No chance either of them just walk away from all that money.

Sanchez with United is an odd one in as much as when Sanchez went there, he was playing well for Arsenal and still scoring so that made sense. So it was on the idea that he'd just continue playing well so they wouldn't need to shift him on (oh the beauty of hindsight).

Ozil on the other hand... I feel that was more obvious. Yes, he was one of Arsenal's 'best' players but he'd already been getting criticism about being inconsistent and dropping off etc... So to give him that high contract was dangerous and desperate. Forced by Sanchez leaving, sure but it was so not a smart decision and made Ozil essentially bigger than the club to a degree. They're really gonna have to take a loss on him, not just in wages but in talent. They're not gonna find a player like Ozil with the budget they have left so they're gonna be down yet another good (maybe even world class) player. So they're in a really shit position and I love it.

Yeah I think the Ozil deal was purely about saving face. The powers that be at Arsenal must've decided that allowing their two most high-profile players to leave for free at the same time would've been too much of an embarrassment so they caved. Ironically it might yet turn out to be even more of an embarrassment when they eventually shift him to a Turkish club but are still paying 90% of his wages or something
