I don't want to tempt fate by calling this thread let's all laugh at Arsenal but I have seen them play 4 times now and they have scraped results in all those games. That goal last night stank and they have been very lucky with decisions.
They have played extremely well in patches in some of these games but the bottom line is -they can't score!! Giroud is out and this new guy is meh to me for them.
I tipped them to finish outside the top 4 this season and I know it's early days and I know I want them to fail but....

We ask the question every year and they always pull through.

When they're 5th or lower by the end of May I'll start saying it.

Qualifying for the CL is their goal every season. They aim to finish 4th. They are always heralded as potential title winners because they amass a lot of points in the first half of the season and then fade away - relatively - due to injuries and suspensions.

This year they have achieved qualification but have looked ropey. Already some injuries and 2 red cards in 4 games.

Slipping?

They have an excellent squad this season and are really a defensive midfielder or two away from looking very dangerous.

Admittedly, Giroud being out means they will now need to go and buy a striker, but I think they may have done that anyway.

When they've got players the calibre of Cazorla, Sanchez, Ozil and Ramsey then they're never going to be too far off the pace.

Personally I think we'll do very well to finish within 10 points of them this year, and that's before they've finished spending.

Cazorla has been the saviour in a couple of games but I understand he wants to leave.

Every year I wish for them to slip & every year they finish 4th. It's the natural order of things, unfortunately.

Even last night, they missed two really good chances just before the red card, if that was any other team, then they would have been "regretting" those chances...yet they fucking hung on.

Gokhan Tore is an awful footballer and Demba Ba really should've reached a cross late on. But yet the scum still got through.

Just like they will scrape 4th this year because they are just that fucking irritating.

Are they slipping - No
Will they win the PL or CL this season - of course not

They're still a long way off being able to beat City or Chelsea to the title this season, and a long way off beating Barca, Bayern, Real, Chelsea or City to the Champions League title.

What they are is consistent.

Do I care where they finish at the end of the season - not really. They've qualified for the CL for 17 consecutive years. I'm used to them finishing above us, and therefore I personnaly only care about 2 of their results per season - against us.

Getting results despite not playing well? Sounds like a team challenging at the top.

Its Arsenal. they start fairly slow and then pick up pace around the centre of the season, lose that pace around about April and then fall back into the 4th spot. They do slip up when it comes to the title, but they always manage to get 4th.

Arsenal suffer from the perennial problem of a lack of balance in their squad. They need a DM and a striker. If they were to bring in Schneiderlin and Bony they would be challenging for the title. If they signed Vidal (or Khedira) and Falcao they'd probably win it.

I think this thread is probably a little early. We will know a great deal more once the window closes.

Ever since 1971 when I stood in the Park Lane against Woolwich I have experienced the flukey
feckers winning or drawing matches in the last few minutes.

That night it was an 88th minute goal by Kennedy to give them the first leg of their double - a scoreless
draw would have sufficed. There are so many I won't annoy myself by repeating them in
here but having watched last years FA Cup final and their two opening games this season I
I will never watch any of their matches again.

Giroud getting injured now, rather than next week, will surely make them buy again. Interesting to see if they can get anybody in on such short notice. Will still finish Top 4.

Unfortunately, the time they were slipping coincided with the time we were strongest and yet we still couldn't finish above them. Which is depressing. Their stadium is now paid for and they have plenty of cash to spend and still comply with FFP.

This ship has sailed for the considerable future and we should just forget about them.

Although I concede it's hard to forget about Wilshere and Schezney' smug, ugly fucking mugs.
