I don't want to see Townsend go. He was a bright spark when coming on against West Ham in a match that was just simply quite dull at least when looking at our performance. I still without a doubt think he could be a good asset to have from the bench.

"Bright performance" = Got off a couple long shots on net. In a 10 v 10 game where he was given tons of space and decided to keep the ball for himself as per usual.

He's a good asset off the bench if Poch decides to quit playing a team game and start playing a Townsend game.

Look I'm not saying he was a revelation, I'm just saying that when he did come on if something was to happen it only looked like it would happen through him. Sometimes you need a selfish direct player and that game was a perfect example and even before the sending off it looked like a game in which we'd struggle to create.

Mate they pitch was a joke, they grew the grass long deliberately which totally disrupted our passing game.

I agree, you do need a plan B sometimes, but I'm not sure Townsend wants to hang around being an impact sub. There's no way he's good enough to be first choice in Poch's system.

I definitely don't want to see the guy starting for us don't get me wrong, not when (at least after watching against QPR) we seem to finally be playing well as a team again. I just think someone like Townsend is a good option against tired legs or in a match where we seem to be lacking inspiration, don't think I'd have faith in any other player outside of our starting 11 to potentially change a game if we were to be looking quite bland and lacking ideas, which even happens to the best of teams.

From what I've read about Townsend in the last few days he knows he has to fight for a place but I agree he won't want to stay as an impact sub, not in the long term but at least for now I'm sure he knows his situation.

That ITK update pretty much sums up what it obvious. Townsend is footy brainless.

Has the physical attributes to be a baller but the brain just isn't wired quick enough.

Yeah basically saying Townsend is young, quick, unintelligent and can't be told more than "run around a bit"
Where as Lennon is older, quick, inintelligent but can also be told "follow that bloke backwards"

Still rather sell Lennon, and get Townsend on some sort of brainwashing programme.

Isn't it a rather funny coincidence then that the best thing Townsend did for a goal that game was stay wide, so Eric Dier could cut in and get in the box to score a goal?

If Townsend managed to actually get results like an Arjen Robben then sure selfish and direct is fine. Unfortunately all he does for us is waste possession.

He has potential. I remember when people said the same about Robben. He didn't turn out too bad did he.

I'm just not sure he is right for us at this moment in time. It's a shame all around.

Lennon at least knows how to link up even if he does get brainfreeze at the decisive moment. It's just his age compared to Townsend that's the problem. Injury history not great.

We run the risk of identity loss if we keep shipping out Spurs men, but I don't know what else you do if you want to actually progress past being the nearly men.

To compare Robben & Townsend ... they don't compare. Robben, trained in total football, and even if it took him a while he understood it, Townsend trained at sprint&shoot and he hasn't fully grasped that yet
