I actually think he'd be a decent shout as Toby replacement, should we push through a Toby/Martial swap. Sanchez had already taken over the frontline role, so we need some quality backup. Homegrown, prem proven, and crucially a LCB, given Jan has a few more years on the clock than Sanchez. We have Foyth and CCV covering RCB behind Sanchez. For £20m he'd be an astute bit of business.

Yep, we've looking at him for a while. For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the poster on here who has links to Swansea but I swear he mentioned that we've had talks with Mawson some time back and might have even got as far as negotiations.

Couldn’t disagree more. He’s very young and has some kinks but will be at a massive club within the next 12 months and will be their main CB for 8-10 years

Have to be a parked bus team because even I can outrun him.

His price has dropped due to a knee injury West Ham agreed a deal for him in the summer and pulled out with concerns over it.

Has an issue where his knee randomly locks when it does it swells and he’s out for a few days etc. They were not sure what causes it.

He needs a lot of luck to be ready for the start of the season. But I can’t say more on it.

Also had talks with burnley & palace.

His price in January this year was 45 million.

Swansea will be lucky to get 18 plus add ons for him.

Thank you @agrdavidsfan for the info! Guess we'll look elsewhere for a LCB.

He's 25, I wouldn't call that very young..
Depends on the position on the pitch - practically a kid for a keeper but a wizened pro for a Rooney type. Most CBs (particularly those that don’t rely on blistering pace) can play into their mid thirties without losing it.

The issues that Davidsfan described sound exactly the same as my own knees ( ruined through years of field hockey on unforgiving astroturf ). Cartilage completely gone in certain areas leaving you bone on bone and needing micro fracture surgery. They bore holes into the top of the bone and the bone marrow bleeds out into the gaps. You then do physiotherapy to compact the bone marrow down and create a faux replacement cartilage. Unlike a lot of surgeries these days, the results can be very variable in terms of success and reality is that he probably has a limited shelf life left. Micro fracture was one of the procedures that Ledley had done with limited success

It is. The second its worn away enough to go bone on bone, you get a searing hot sharp pain every time they touch. Before that I had the locking issue and swelling in my quads and the top of the calf. Then after the surgery it can take a long time for things to get back to 'normal'. I'm definitely better post surgery, and have still played some hockey, cricket, fives etc etc afterwards, but you're never quite the same and every now and then any form of relatively intense physical activity can leave either one of my legs completely swollen with fluid at the bottom of the quad, around the knee and the top of the calf with a dull pain and stiffness all over. My qauds/thigh muscles used to be huge from hockey, skiing etc etc and have somewhat withered away. All you can do is elevate, ice, and do exercise with no impact like exercise bikes, to try and disperse the fluid and get things back to normal.

It will be better for a professional athlete like Mawson who can dedicate themselves to a proper regime of looking after themselves. I have less problems and can do more activity when I am able to get to the gym and do bikes a few times a week to keep the quads in good nick, and remember to be taking cod liver oil daily for joints etc.

Not exactly the best situation when my work involves a lot of wireless/steadicam/shoulder mounted camera work in golf, cricket and a whole lot of other sports
