Open the purse strings Levy and give him a new contract.
If Van Dijk and Kompany are getting 150k plus a week surely Toby is worth the same.
He is a proven, quality top player and worth every penny.

If he was at a club that regularly paid those wages no-one would bat an eyelid.
I'd say he is worth it on a 2 year contract.

If he were at a club that "regularly paid those wages" wouldn't he want more than 150K?

Just give it him. Gives us 4 CB’s locked in and we don’t have to spend the money on a replacement.

What would Jan and Sanchez think to that?

If there are so many clubs that can pay him the money he wants just where were they last Summer, because zero bids were received. What a player thinks he is worth and what a club is willing to pay for them are two completely different things.

At his age no team is going to give him a long contract at anything remotely close to 150K a week.

Don't forget Vertonghen is out with a bad one and out of contract next summer without even a 1 year extension clause. At which point we could end up with Sanchez and Foyth and not a lot else.
Neither of them are ready to play without an experienced CB next to them week in week out. They're both big fit strong lads but neither have shown they are intelligent enough or able to take charge. Sanchez has repeatedly lost concentration and Foyth, whether he was played into trouble or not, didn't need to concede either of those pens, they were inexperienced tackles. Suddenly putting your faith in him and him making those mistakes is not how you build him up. He's in need of education.

Sorry, he would never gave been given MOTM had he not nodded in the goal. He was shakey as fuck for the first 1/3 of the match. Had we conceded from any of the numerous late chances Palace had, he'd have been blamed and crucified.
I like him, but he's a child that needs time and cannot be counted on (yet)

The 'child' has just picked up Man of the Match on his full International debut.

Tbf It was a friendly with not too many main stars involved, against Mexico...but it's good for his development.

I do believe in Foyth, but think he needs time...he is not quite there yet, despite the shit tonnes of hype being applied by the usual suspects. I wouldn't be happy with him being a League regular this season, he needs to be managed in the right way, which I trust Poch to do.

Early rounds of the FA, as much Carabou as he can get and the odd League appearance when we can bed him slowly.

I wouldn't give Toby the new deal though, there are good centre halves out there alright...plus we'll get a decent fee for him and fuck knows we should have money to spend after that shitshow in the summer.

In an international friendly where both teams played "experimental sides "

Come on stop doing this, I know you're trying to temper the hype a little but there's no need to keep downplaying his performances just to force your point. Foyth has huge potential, it's obvious to everyone - it doesn't matter if he's only played 3/4 senior games, the fact that he's getting these games in the first place, looking the part and called up to the Argentina squad plus MOTM on his intl debut has to be worth something.

As I said I wouldn't actually mind promoting Foyth to 3rd choice if Toby leaves particularly providing we actually recognise Dier to be a CB and not MF, I personally don't think we need another CB.

Isn't Harry on 200k

I think Toby is truly top 5 in the world in his role. Pay the man!

Yeah I thought Kane was on 200k.

We also seemed to be moving our wage ceiling up a little so if that’s what he’s asking for I’d give it to him.

I still feel wages are obscene nowadays but that’s quite cheap on going rate at the moment sadly and there are other positions we need to prioritise rather than leaving ourselves potentially short at centre back (such as possibly left back).

It isn't cheap. There are only a few teams in the world that would pay a defender that much. Bayerns highest earner is lewandowski on £170k a week.

Believe me when I say I'd love him to be the next Ledley king (minus injuries)
But for every Ledley there's been hundreds of Gardiners Etc.

I wonder if Toby and Verts want to make sure they both get the same, and slowing things down?

I thought Kane was on a basic of £150k but with add ons it took it to nearer £200k? Also, isn't Dele now on £150k with add ons? If so, then it's only right that Toby should be on a similar amount IMHO.

You have to remember it isn't just about what they bring to the team but also what they bring to the club. Kane brings millions into the club through sponsorship and attention. Our games aren't chosen to be shown around the world because people want to see toby they want to see kane. It's why strikers are more expensive and are paid better.

If we sold toby could we replace him? Yes. If we sold kane it is doubtful.

Remember where we got toby from aswell. He couldn't get into the atletico team so was loaned to southampton. He did well and joined us. Was then put in a team that suited him with an excellent partner he knew well. He has had a big injury and hasn't got back to where he was a couple of seasons ago and as seen in the summer he is not that sought after by the major clubs.

I'd love him to stay and if levy thinks that's a fair wage then great. But no doubt about it that is a lot of money for a defender.

I guess that's fair comment if you want to concentrate on the 2 pen performance rather than the MOM performance straight afterwards.

Foyth and Sanchez need verts and TA!

I don’t think we could replace Toby, ( a new player would prob be young and need time to bed in) we nerver replaced, bale, Carrick, modric, berbatov, Sanchez still need a year or two and forty longer, they are far from ready from starting games together. We need to keep Toby and verts for another few years it’s not like they will become shit at 33yrs old, to help bring though Sanchez and Foyth.

We used to have the best CB, and full backs in the league a strong midfield we were just a couple of players off winning the league. Our squads improved but a lot of our players are not top 3 maybe top 6 in there positions in the league anymore. Verts and Toby could play for any team in the league. We need to improve not go back, better full backs, Another top midfielder like victor used to be and we will be really strong. Don’t get me wrong Rose and Victor could come good again, but I still think we need to keep our best players replace the weak ones.

As a footnote to my positive response
to Toby Elderweield-s request/demand
for 150,00 pounds a week
that's the going rate these days.
That he and his his agent are playing hardball
is not surprising in the context
of Spurs and its chief negotiator, Shirley.

However the once beautiful dame
is now a tawdry whore
trailing her skirts
at any passing Sugar Daddy.

Money is ruining the game.
The playing field is not just uneven
but the goals doubled in size
at the end those
prepared to play he money game attack.

Players and administrators at the top
are becoming multi millionaires
at the expense of the desperate widespread needs
of lower division clubs
school and amateur football
ex players in dire mental, physical and monetary states.

Pay the man the going rate by all means
but be aware that the game is going to hell
overdosing on money and ego.

I am proud
that for whatever reason
we are not playing that game.
