Except he's better, younger and more likely to leave. If he wants parity with Kane and Lloris and we turn him down on the grounds that he should be on no more than Vertonghen, that's idiotic.
That's at best a myth. At worst, I don't even have the correct English words.

£100k a week is a bargain. He could earn more than that at City etc. and be a key player for them. Quality player and makes those around him perform better too. World class CB's are increasingly a rarity and we have lucked out and got one on the cheap

That's the thing with contact renewal, if you're going to reward an individual with increased wages you better be prepared to have pay parity across the squad.
