According to this, the top 5 paid Premiership CB's are...

Luiz - £120k p/w
Otamendi - £120k p/w
Kompany - £120k p/w
Kolasinac - £150k p/w
Van Dijk - £180k p/w

So you're blatantly spot on (if those figures are true) and £300k p/w is a ridiculous request/thought.
Thanks for that info. What I expected really. People get far too carried away with wages. It's only man city and maybe man u on occasion that pay silly money.

Fact is Toby was a flop (ish) in his move to athletico, where pretty much the whole site here thought he was crap at Ajax when linked. He signed a fair deal at the time I believe around 40-50k. He was offered 150k which I believe is very fair. He didn't want it so we are where we are. I think the 150k stayed on the table and being honest I just don't see him getting that anywhere else. Even real and barca don't play their players that much. I remember this same talk when Danny rose was being linked away and it was found that Danny was on on exactly the same wage as marcelo at real and alonso at Chelsea already at that time. I'm not a bean counter but paying Toby 300k a week would be dumb stupid. He won't get ut anywhere.

Perhaps. But players who are out of contract tend to get ridiculous wages - Ramsey is the latest example. And Toby is in a kind of half-way position this summer where he can't leave for free, but can leave for a fee probably less than half his normal market value. He should be able to negotiate for that to translate to an oversized wage packet.
It's not the same at all. Your talking about a transfer, we're talking about a renewal. He was offered this with at least 2.5 years of his contract remaining. He was offered a very good deal an excellent deal in reality. He agreed then didn't. In any case I didn't see all these high paying clubs chasing him last summer. It was suggested that the Manchester clubs found his demands excessive.

Most saying he was offered 150k 2 years ago but only after Kane signed his 200k contract did anyone else get offered above 100k as Harry was the highest paid player at the club... Maybe he was offered 100k at that time but I doubt 150k 2 years ago

This is one of these discussion where there is a great case of perception versus reality.

We have the sixth highest average salary in the EPL. Our average salary equates to about £70k p/w. Does anyone really believe that Toby is still on £50k p/w?

We are behind the usual suspects in the wage table. Two oligarch clubs, one of the biggest in the world, one overspending and one whose whole wage bill has been skewed due to one player, Ozil. This seems to be conveniently forgotten by some in the media.

Some of the younger United players just renegotiated their deal on £50-70k p/w which shows their is value out there. And Liverpool have managed to sign quite a few players from relegated clubs on lower wages for a top six player.

We pay quite well and our bonus system is one of the best in the game, but we are underpaying compared to teams who have unlimited funds.

Across Europe there are not many clubs bar the super clubs - PSG, Barca, Real, Juve - that can offer our salaries, London, training ground, stadium, EPL, etc. Some of the Russian and Turkish clubs will pay more for the odd player, but that amounts to a stipend for playing in those countries.

Juve's model has changed. They have about 10 players in their squad who they signed on Bosmans. Rather than spending on transfer fees they have paid the players the equivalent fee in salary. Ramsey is not worth the money he is being pay per week, but if Juve had to pay a fee for him on top of those wages they could not afford him.

If Toby could go for free then I would expect Juve to come in for him and pay him about £150k p/w. They may still pursue him for his get out fee, but pay less in salary.

It is a complicated system and I for one am glad we are being run as a proper business. Chelsea are on the verge of implosion if the owner continues to adopt a self-sustainability model while Arsenal need Champions League football more than the other five.

He did get left out. Then someone remembered that he is bloody good.

He should be one of our top earners when fit.
