Toby Alderweireld got the better of Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane when the pair crossed paths in Saint Petersburg but believes the striker’s starring role at the World Cup is “just the beginning”.

Alder and verts is a class CB pairing i don't want broken up. I hope we can get his contract sorted. Sucks for davinson but these 2 are class.

mmm doesn't sound like he is hell bent on leaving?

He's never said a word that indicated he wanted to leave. That was cooked up by mischievous journalists and paranoid fans. He wanted a better contract than the club is willing to offer a 30 year old defender. That's not the same thing as wanting to leave.

I doubt it. If Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Sanchez all stay at Tottenham, I think they'll all play: 3 defenders and 2 wing-backs. I reckon that was the intention last season, until Alderweireld and Rose went down with long term injuries.

Belgium just played England. Obvious he was going to be asked about Kane and obviously he says something nice about his current teammate. But pointless to decipher his future plans from the interview if that’s based on contracts and not working relationships.

Pretty sure it's fairly well publicised Alderweireld wanted pay parity with the likes of VVD, who is himself, massively over paid.
In the process of arguing for this, he managed to annoy Poch and Levy and now, even though Alderweireld has backed down on his demands, the damage may be too much to repair.

I do agree though, that should he stay, he'd be in a three with Verts and Dave and that back 3 would be formidable.

Love those 3 as a 3. Davidson will be a better player this year as well. Come on Toby be super humble, take the pay rise and sign that new deal.

Still can’t believe Verts gets shunted our wide for Belgium, if everyone kisses and makes up we’ve got the best back three in world football.
