Will have better offers both financially and from a career perspective ........ can't see it happening even if, and it's a huge if, Levy was prepared to meet the Saints valuation

He's a good player, but we won't spend that amount of money.

Someone like Xhaka might be cheaper.

ALL multimillion earning one footed Prem players need beating with the one-footed stick .When I started training with a small club it was all the coach was on about , it seemed important back in the day. Its a big handicap especially for a forward...and a basic need for dribbling . Look at how defenders place themselves in front of say Lamela and how effective they are in stopping his dribbles . Dembo too . Same with right footers of course .
60s heroes like Best or Greaves were two footed , dunno why there's so many one footers about these days .

For the record I completely agree with this. I think Lefties do seem to get picked up for it more, which isn't entirely fair, but total one footedness in professional footballers drives me nuts.

not sure about Bentaleb [chipping in goals] who is fast starting to remind me of Ray Wilkins with blinkers on. Hopefully some natural progression will occur... [Bentaleb and/or Mason] start to chip in with a few goals and Bentaleb stops his habit of passing sideways blind then its all good.

Pretty sure by now that's one of Bentaleb's main mandates in MoPo's system - keeping the ball swinging right to left like a pendulum to find a flank to move along.

Further roles of:
Providing a central pass outlet (for our defenders or from further up field if nothing on or ball needs shifting)
Breaking up opposition play (does, subtly sometimes)
Tracking deep runners if the defense is streched (needs work!)
Making more direct through balls where he can (he can find a quick tight pass, but needs good outlets to do so)

He's also got close control and decent technique, helping the central, congested area.

In other words - he's never going to be stopping sideways passing. Scoring and breaking forward also someway down on the list of duties, if at all on it.

Not quiet sure of the exact role schniederlin had under MoPo or has now at the saints. If it's the above he would be bentaleb competition, otherwise he is complimentary - as an alternative to mason.

Wouldn't mind him. However, if we got him and it saw Bentaleb on the bench and not starting as often, I'd be very disappointed.

I would have thought he would be starting alongside Bentaleb rather than in place of him.

He's no improvement on Mason and Bentaleb.

I'm happy with Alli and Winks coming in to the CM mix instead.
He's miles ahead of Mason and better than Bentaleb (but that doesn't matter because Nabil should be in our first XI)

I don't think he is all that. Jedinak has better numbers on Whoscored.com and plays for a worse team. Will also cost less (but older).

Sissoko from Newcastle is your box-to-box midfielder; an upgrade on Mason. Has PL exp, decent age.

Sissoko could not play in a cm2 especially not in ours.

"Schneiderlin has recorded 213 interceptions in the last two seasons making 143 in 12/13 campaign and 70 in the 13/14 campaign; making 259 tackles and 146 in 12/13 campaign (73.9% tackle success) and 113 in 13/14 campaign (76.9% tackle success) – making Morgan Schneiderlin the best defensive midfielder in terms of statistics over the last two seasons with 472 interceptions and tackles over the last two years"

I think mason needs a better partner than bentaleb and schneiderlin would be perfect for it

I think you have a point, bents and mason are both very good players but could both do with an exp head to help sometimes.

Sissoko (of Newcastle) would be an interesting buy imo I see him more as a winger but suppose that won't happen...agree in a two man midfield no chance.

He's not a winger either mate. He's a slightly tricky player to pigeonhole. He's not slow but not lightning quick, he's not really a dribbler, more a robust direct power runner. He'll work much harder than someone like Chadli without the ball, but he won't produce as much in the final third. Toulouse used to play him in a couple of positions in their 4141:

Defender Defender defender Defender

Capoue

Didot

Sissoko ---------------- Tabanou

Sissoko

Striker

Honestly, the only way we could accommodate him would be in a 433 either as a wide right CM or wide attacker in the front three, but he really isn't prolific enough as a wide attacker and I reckon that if Pochettino would be smart enough to play that formation, we already have better players than Sissoko to work that system as a CM like Onomah, Mason or Winks.

Someone should release a statement along the lines of "We would be interested in a part exchange deal with Tottenham if the deal involved Hugo Lloris, Christian Eriksen or Harry Kane. However, while a move to Southampton would be a step forward for them, we realise that these players should be, and will want to be playing Champions League next season, something that unfortunately we, nor Tottenham for that matter, can offer them."

The best from a whole lot of bitterness on a Saints forum. Boy the disillusion on that thread is something else...

In the 2 seasons we came 4th (2009/10 & 2012-13), we conceded 41 goals. This season we already conceded 49 goals with another 4 to go. We need to find ways to concede 15 goals less than we are doing now. IMO, Schneiderlin buy is a must & hope we go for him & spend the cash.

With Coquelin doing well for Arsenal, I can't see Wenger investing 20m+ on Schneiderlin. I am ruling out Chelsea & possibly City too. Liverpool along with United may be interested in him but that's not given either.

Schneiderlin alongside Bentaleb could be the thing our defense really needs.
