never read so much rubbish as on this thread ,townsend this , he can do that , lennon cant rubbish absolute rubbish , townsend plays one good game against poor oposition and everyone starts saying he should start and lennon should be sold . lennons twice the player townsend is and until he starts doing it season after season i will stick by lennon , and also everyone moans about loyalty to the club well hes shown it shame the supporters cant show some to him .... mugs
Townsend was great for QPR (probably their best player) and they raved about him like nobodies business. He's carried on that form and been excellent the last two games. My guess is he's been lighting up training as well. If he's ahead of lennon and pushing him out of the squad it's for a reason. AVB is no mug.

Goat just said no offer for Bale yet. Now, I'm going to preface this statement with I believe he will be sold. But what if we're selling Lennon because Bale's not going but we want to bring in Lamela now? We would then have 3 guys who could play RW (Lamela, Townsend, Bale) but if we want the 4-2-3-1 that suited Bale we could have him as the player in the hole but Lamela/Townsend as our RW options.

Sorry, I'm not getting my hopes up on this, but I guess at face value it makes some sense.

OK I suppose that's true. If we're keeping Bale and buying Lamela, then yes I would be OK with Lennon being sold. It's weird that I hadn't even thought about that eventuality.

Grey Fox just now: "Sorry folks, have a lot of info, but too pissed and don't trust myself in the RO, i will post in the morning, waht I will share tonight nis Vlad should be with us wednesday or Thursday and lots of interest in Lennon. Going to bed sorry"

I assume pissed as in drunk and not mad? I don't think we should even contemplate selling Lennon.

Lennon to Cardiff? The guy is a top10 player (at least), would be bizarre if he went there.

thinktank, I really enjoy reading most of your posts but I can't tell you how much I disagree with you in your opinion of Walker. I think that he's just about the best right-back that we can realistically expect to attract to Spurs (all the ones who are undeniably better than Walker are in the 'Lahm'-class, and we those players are out of our league for the time being). I agree that he does still make mistakes in his defending, but I don't think he makes noticeably more mistakes than other defenders his age and his pace gets him out of half the times he puts himself in trouble in any case. He does still have improvements to make to his game (again, like many other defenders of his age) but where we see him differently is that I do think he has the determination, work ethic and professionalism to keep learning from others and iron those mistakes out of his game in the future.

As for AVB, he's played Walker as first choice in just about every important game (i.e. 99% of league games and all pivotal cup/European games) that he's been in charge for, so I think that Villas-Boas does rate him and will stick with Walker unless we had the opportunity to sign a stellar Lahm-esque replacement.

I don't see either of us being able to argue the other one around, so we may just have to agree to disagree on the subject of Walker. (Apologies to everyone else for going off on a tangent!)

I don't think it has to be Lahmesque, just more solid overall - defensively and more precise in attack.

I also can't agree about him learning, I don't think he will. It's just his personality and temperament. Don't think he's got it for the very top which is where we are heading and where AVB wants to be.

I do agree that we're not gonna agree though and agree we should agree to disagree(y)

But he rarely has any impact.:D

4 goals and 7 assists (most assists by a Spurs player) last year in the Premier League. I agree not as impressive as other players at other Premiership clubs, but still a decent impact.

I think we would miss him a great deal. IMO he's got great control, adds to our ability to counter attack, and has a good understanding with Walker. Over the last few seasons, he's been one of the players we really miss when injured. I'd hate to see him in the hands of another Premiership team.

As pleased as I have been with Townsend's performances, it has been against lesser opposition, and I just worry he'll end up being another Taraabt. Hope he proves me wrong in a Spurs shirt though! ;)

Will be really gutted to see Lennon go. For the past seasons whenever he has been injured we have looked unbalanced. I think now we finally have a decent striker In the box he may make use of his deliveries.I think lennon has showed in the past he can cross the ball but for the past few years our strikers havent been the quality like Soldado is showing.& Yes he doesn't score lots but when he does we win so that's a good omen. His defensive side is also very strong. Even if he's used more as a squad player if rather have him in our squad than running at our full backs.

Am I the only one that wants him out? Really sorry if I rub some people the wrong way, I just don't see what he brings to the table anymore.

Well known defence guru Alan Hansen says that the one thing all defenders hate playing against is pace. Some other player (forget who) the other day said that Lennon had the quickest acceleration of any player in the league. His final ball may not always be as good as we hope but he has characteristics that cause teams all sorts of problems.

He gives us options and the opponents problems. Would rather he stayed as think it would be a mistake to loose that raw pace on both sides of the pitch. Teams hated playing against us because we had two wingers with buckets of pace.

Just give him a few games playing behind the striker, if he doesn't impress i'll be fine with him leaving. I'm convinced he can offer something there.

Selling Aaron would be a huge mistake imo. He has huge impact on our team. For example Walker wasn't so good today becouse there was Andros on the RW not Aaron.
