My biggest concern is the money for sure. Very good player but feels like the price he’ll go for doesn’t fit with our business - unless he’s 100% main man Ange wants, I can’t imagine we’ll spend big on him
I don’t disagree but I think this is still underestimating what Ange needs to really compete from the midfield next year. Perhaps Bergvall can contribute but putting significant expectations on him at the moment feels premature. If you look at what we have:
Bissouma
Bentancur
Sarr
Skipp...
I think there’s some real merit in this. Appreciate pot shots from range can concede possession etc. but a few systems to get shots away at least keeps the opposition guessing; do they come out to stop a shot or sit in like they have been.
interestingly, I’ve watched a bit of Leverkusen this...
Possibly in terms of Gallagher being the next target in this area but given Bergvall’s age, I still think we can improve upon either Hojbjerg or Skipp whilst allowing him time to settle and develop.
Despite his professionalism PEH isn’t a great fit for us and you can say the same of skipp but...
They’ve clearly been weighing up sales this window but don’t seem to have had anyone pay over the odds for anyone so far.
In terms of January, I can’t see CG moving now, the link which seems to be gathering steam is Broja moving so that could buy them some time. Doesn’t change CGs contract...
Don’t think that’s the case at all. I see it pretty much as Ange tells it - we should always be looking for opportunities to improve.
That from my pov means for now or a couple of years down the road. So signing either first team talent or talent we expect to develop, in all possible areas...
Would be a serious mistake for them and what they’ve managed to build so far under Howe.
That being said, seeing the same cycle play out again there as it did for us will be interesting. Rather them than us.
Could well be a summer resolution I suspect. In the interim, as frustrating as he can be to some fans PEH isn’t a passenger and always trains with commitment and gives his all in games. A great pro who still has a role here if we can’t change up/upgrade this month.
I sort of agree on this but if we get him for peanuts this window and he has a solid run for us, he’ll sell for a profit in fairly short order. So it’s not exactly a bad signing in that sense (Kelly).
I could see this. Depending on budgets, if we can’t get our top tier option, some sort of young player for the longer term would make a lot of sense, especially with some of the links. All feels like progress to me.
Pleased to hear this latest ITK. Potentially means Davies is out for a spell but actually addressing that with a very calculated gamble (low cost due to contract, solid age, potential upside), quickly to avoid a difficult second half to the season is actually very logical. Especially if all the...
In a nutshell, this is the problem. Our 2nd options generally aren’t the same level in many positions. First 11 and a couple off the bench, seem to have taken fantastically to Ange but there’s a few in our squad just not up to the standard needed.
Only caveat being that many of the stand-ins...
100% this. I’ll enjoy the ride and the steps Ange has taken already with this team are exceeding my expectations - but not anticipating a title tilt at the moment despite the current table/form.
Confidence. That’s it in a nutshell.
For me, the price tag is hard to justify on what we’ve seen in terms of goals and assists, plus his overall consistency but I thought he was positive last night and played some great quick passes and had some excellent touches. The final piece isn’t there...
You’re better informed than the rest of us but my presumption would be that Ange was ok with this. As you say, will be keen to see what happens now, as a lot of good recruitment has started to happen and the whole process seems to have a bit more shape/structure now. Fingers crossed it’s a...
Key for this is in training. Ange will know what these guys are capable of because every day he has a chance to see how they might measure up against a PL forward and how they fit our current style of play - we’re all speculating following the same of Sanchez but I hope it’s in training, first...
He may well have been moved on at some stage were it not for the manager merry-go-round we’ve had for the past 4/5 years. I think this highlights the importance of backing Ange and giving new players time
This is where I am on it. Appreciate that I have no idea whether Phillips is anywhere near ready (he could be further off than much of this discussion seems to think) but I would much rather give the lad some chances when needed as opposed to leaning on players who have no futures here.
The one...
