I literally thought Taarabt was going to be the new Zidane.
I remember my brother in law scoffed after I told him Taarabt was the most talented player I’d seen come through the ranks at Spurs and I almost punched him in the face.
Definitely glad we're in this rather than out of Europe altogether. Let's go out and win the thing and get the 'no trophies' monkey off our back for a while. Yeah, it might be low prestige, but I honestly don't think we can afford to turn our noses up at silverware at this point.
Also, PL teams...
I don't think so. It's shorthand for a certain type of perpetually offended blowhard who happens to flush pink when getting angry about Alex Scott being on Football Focus. I don't think anyone's in danger of being racially discriminated against on those terms.
Bale was more spectacular, and could win games on his own, true. But goals are goals, and Harry’s numbers are up there with the best (in this country anyway).
The fact that we’ve had Kane banging in 20-30 goals a season for eight years and still won nothing is a fucking travesty.
For me too. I (naively) felt that Bale could have catapulted us to greatness if we’d kept hold of him in his prime years.
With Harry, we’ve had him in his prime and the club is going backwards anyway.
It’s the death of all hope in us ever being competitive that paradoxically makes this one...
Its sad, but I wouldn’t say it’s that odd really. The interview was completely stage managed to put pressure on Levy and to prepare the fans for the fact that he’s leaving.
Out of his depth, but it’s not his fault. He was brought in as a bit of positive PR by a chairman who desperately needs some good press.
This mess is all on Levy.
Yep, that’s also a valid explanation. I don’t think there’s any harm in exploring things like unconscious bias in this context though. This is precisely why the Rooney Rule was introduced in the NFL and also why it made a difference in the number of black coaches represented in the league.
He might actually have the glimmer of a point here. Mason is the golden boy who has been fast tracked beyond his competence. Powell is a highly experienced coach who was overlooked because.....? We don’t know, but I think it’s fair to assume that optics were more important than experience here...
My take on Romano (which I know you've all been waiting for), is that he absolutely is a goal hanger, but that he's also relatively well connected. He might not be ahead of the curve on every single thing, but I generally find him to be one of the more reliable Twitter journos.
