I would have said have Dier playing in DM and dropping in to the back line to make a back 3 when defending but he's been so poor of late I'm not sure that's a good idea.
Foyth/Sanchez in a 3 would have been the best option from my point of view, but sadly, no can do.
The problem is the type of game - it was the NLD and they have a new manager - new era for them. It was a make or break game for them. 'Are they really any good?' sort of thing. 'Is Emery going to take the NLD seriously?'
The answer to both those questions, is yes.
Dier was the biggest culprit for me. After he dropped into the back 3 we actually looked worse. 2 big errors leading to goals from him - compounding Foyth's error. Undid all the good he did in the first half.
I think we should just set up how we did against Dortmund in the CL when we beat them 2-1 away. I think that was a 4231 but we dealt with Aubameyang.
That said in one of the legs Aubameyang had a perfectly good goal ruled offside.
