Yep being that toenail in front was the difference!

I realise it's the law and it's a yes/no situation but for me VAR is an overall detriment to the game.

At the bare minimum the off side rule needs looking at because it was never brought in to stop someone being 1/4 inch in front.
How do you change it though? no matter what is brought in surely there will always be occasions where a player is offside my millimetres.

The ball gets passed to him. That's interfering with play.
I'm not saying he's not interfering with play - I'm just pretty convinced Wan Bissaka's playing him on. I don't think Wright's gaining anything by his foot being a size bigger than AWB's.

Utd players should not be celebrating that. Great effort from Coventry, deserved to be going to the final.
In fairness to the Utd players when the last pen went in they didn’t run to celebrate but instead turned to congratulate the Coventry players. They knew they didn’t deserve to go through to the Final

what's not right is that the Cov goal stands if it's, for example, a home game in round 3.

just baffling that you can VAR in so e games but not others in the same competition.

It's tough but my understanding was it was brought in to stop goalhanging and look at it now?

The big problem for me is that you can't properly celebrate a goal, especially in the ground - you are always waiting to see, so I'd personally rather leave the decision with the lino who puts his (or her) flag up immediately. Stop play before we get to the point of scoring.

Semi auto next year. Got to be better than someone picking a frame and drawing a line at least

People will still complain because the margin of error goes away with semi automated. Even closer (actual toenail) calls will come into play.

If the lines overlapped the system would turn the line green and give onside.
I keep rewatching it and I just cannot see it. I feel like this is going to become my Zapruder film. Going full tin foil hat.

I am still not convinced he was offside. He's not exactly getting an advantage, is he? What a shite way to end a brilliant game.

That's exactly the sort of situation I was talking about here - an offside where the "offside" player clearly doesn't have an advantage by being "offside". I know it's different competitions/rules/officials/etc but it's maddening that that Gabriel hand ball was dismissed for entirely subjective reasons yet they can't apply the same sort of logic elsewhere.

(and yes, I would be pissed off if a player was behind our defender and was deemed onside because he hadn't gained an advantage or whatever - "but he's offside ref, keep your opinions out of it")

How do they determine when the ball is played? Milliseconds difference in how thats interpreted makes a huge difference when it’s literal millimetres offside

Its so tough BUT when they drew the line, the ball had clearly left O'Hare's foot. That should never be the case.

In the laws it's defined as the first frame in which you can see the ball kicked/played. You're limited by the framerate of cameras but that's nothing new and has been an issue since the start of VAR in 2017.

TBF that frame made it an even closer decision. If they picked the frame prior then he was even further offside based on how the attacker was slowing down and the central defender was dropping. But they picked that frame because the one previous would have not shown the ball kicked yet.

But didnt Wan Bissaka pull his body back aswell? So would've been close.

Daylight between them

Maybe you'll get your wish after the trials. But I think it will change the game too much. Under the "daylight" rule this is onside and if this is onside then defending in football has to completely change.

For any competition it should be all or nothing, if you can’t have it in all games then it should be in none.
I feel exactly the same about the new ‘semi automatic offside’, no way should it start a third into the season, the beginning or wait till next season.

At least we know it's done properly and not some bloke picking a frame by eye and then drawing a line on

I'm absolutely convinced Wan Bissaka's ahead of him. I think I might have lost my mind.
