This is honestly the best post I've seen since the result yesterday.

It will take time, there will be embarrassing losses along the way but we need to stick to the plan and make progress each season. Eventually we could find ourselves in a similar position.

Ange has honestly over achieved this season, all things considered.

There will be the odd kneejerk reaction here and there and that's to be expected but being patient is the most important thing we need to do here.

I don’t think Anges position is anything close to arteta or klopp . Both those managers came in halfway through a season , both got to cup finals and won one of them . Also they both completely tore their squads apart , barely anyone was left after 2 years , we are not going to sell 7 of those starters from yesterday , yes we may tweak the front line and a midfielder but who are we taking out from our first 11 .
Bissouma
Richarlison
Kulu
Upgrade Johnson / Werner .
Can u see us upgrading any of the below ?
Vicario
Romero
Vdv
Udogie
Porro
Madison
Sarr
Son

This isn’t a tear up and start again with problematic/ crap players , this is about who we shoehorn into the first 11 that does fit Ange's style of football .

Judgement starts next season. We've shown more than enough positive signs this season and will most likely end with European football and a solid base to build on. Luckily the people who make the decisions have a bit more sense and he's not going anywhere just yet so take the rough with the smooth and get behind the manager and the team.

I think the problem we have is that we have players that are suited to when teams come at us. Son at CF can get in behind, Bissouma CAN be good evading the press and Deki can break and beat his man very well.
But you put us against a solid team that holds it's positions and those players aren't effective, Son on the Left is wasted, Bissouma doesn't have a great passing range, Dragusin is a Romero replacement and not a VDV replacement as he's really one sided in controlling and passing.

We need more variety in our squad.

We play high risk football. If we’re not at it then unfortunately results like yesterday are on the cards.

This is the most I’ve been engaged in football since the Poch days as I know I’m gonna watch a team that’s gonna try and impose themselves and take risks to score goals and win. And so far I would argue it’s working on the whole as it’s put us ahead of where we all thought we would be this season.

Also need to mention Fulham here. They’re a tidy team who have beaten Arsenal at home, pushed Liverpool all the way over 2 legs and recently won at Old Trafford. Like Everton, they press well from a mid block which is a style we seem to have trouble with at the moment and are in good form. It was always a very tricky game on paper IMO.

Yesterday was shit and the players and manager deserve criticism but it was a rare bad day at the office and my belief hasn’t wavered because of yesterday.

Good teams respond to set backs and I’m confident we will see a response after the international break

When talking about other managers I think as much as we all love to hate him, Arteta is a prime example of giving someone time. He was a laughing stock early on and (I know it's hard for some here to admit) now he has Arsenal flying and has improved them year on year. Plenty were asking for him to be sacked, Arsenal stuck by him and now they're the best they have been since Wenger left.

The flipside to all of this is - there are far more managers that have not managed to kick on from their first season, or that things have gotten even worse. You need to justify being given more time.

Arteta would have been sacked for sure in December 2020 had they not won the FA Cup in his first season, then even though they came 8th they'd been on a strong run in the second half of the year. Klopp also came 8th in his first season but reached two cup finals, had dramatic wins over Man Utd and Dortmund in Europe, and won at Stamford Bridge at the Etihad in the league. And in Poch's first season we were pretty inconsistent but reached a cup final, battered Chelsea 5-3, beat Arsenal in the last minute and then went on a strong run and pipped Liverpool to Europa League on the last day. In each case there were foundations to build on.

Not that I don't think Ange needs more time - it's ok to be inconsistent in the first season as long as there are signs of improvement and markers of what they are trying to get the team to do, and it is pretty clear to me that Ange has a plan for this team. But there has to be some sort of mini "wins" that he can use to sell a story - eg - CL qualification or if we won the NLD to end the season on a high. If we have a poor end of the season, don't have any real "achievements" per se and then start next season badly, then you know full well how the story ends....

Gutted about the result yesterday.

However, it wasn't a 3-0 game. We had a spell of 15 minutes where we capitulated.

Many experts say that Ange's style of football and personality would be perfect to succeed Klopp at Liverpool... and he has that Liverpool connection from his youth... I actually agree with them... if you look at the way he sets up his team. Energy, high line, organized chaos, pressing, atmosphere, culture etc... Ange as a person and father figure... it's exactly what the fans there would love (to continue) as well.

It would be a very good choice for Liverpool. IMO.

SO !! ... of course yesterday was unacceptable. The players know it. Ange knows it... But Ange has warned us... he will do what he does and believes in.... and there will be bumps... we will be true to the way we want to play. Where we want to go as a club/team. Learn from it.

If we can't see that or we get impatient too quickly... it's not impossible that Ange could be tempted if Liverpool come knocking.

If Ange is a good fit for Liverpool... he's more than a good fit for us. Because we want the same kind of football-culture at Spurs... don't forget that.

We can criticize... point out errors and faults. Sure... but if we want to move forward and change the culture on and off the pitch our support needs to be unwavering. We have already seen glimpses of what Ange can do. I want more of that.

To me Ange is an opportunity we simply can't waste.

COYS. 💪
I love Ange.

Also loved his post match presser 💪 no bs, no excuses and sick of everyone going on about top4.

Be patient with this process and good things will come.

Squad still not quite where is needs to be but yesterday was just a big off day probably the only one like that all season which is good going under a new manager.

Watching the highlights it seems like Sarr and Maddison both don’t feel they have to be goal side of the opposition.

This leaves us with just one midfielder if we lose possession.

Honestly, I'd rather we qualify for Europa or the Conference league for next season.

We aren't winning the UCL anytime soon with the other super clubs in the form and with Madrid getting so much stronger in the summer.

Have a proper crack at actually winning something obtainable, build from there. It's all a part of the process.
We've been in Europa lots of times and not come close to winning the last 30+ years. I'm not sure where this idea we could win it comes from. We've actually got closer to winning the Champions League.

It's simple really:

1. Past results have no bearing on the present
2. Overall lower level of competition which logically speaking gives us a better chance.
3. Using our fairytale run to the CL final is pretty redundant as an argument, we are far less likely to achieve that again than having a decent run in Europa.

Thanks for attending my Tedtalk.

Far less likely based on what?

Based on the level of current competition.
Yet we've got no further in that competition than the Champions League. Europa is a grueling competition. Winning either is a massive task so it's better to be playing in the best competition. We're a lot more likely to raise our game in those games as well. We've been far more complacent in Europa and Conference. You also have to consider that while the competition is lower it also usually means we use the squad more which is also a drop off in quality. The CL we actually play our best team.

No arguments here, but the bold bit is the crux of our problem in Europa. If we take it seriously, and assume the squad strength will be like for like, Europa is clearly the easier of the two to actually achieve something in.

Based on the level of current competition.

Liverpool Vs Atalanta
Benfica vs Marseille
Bayer Leverkusen Vs West Ham
Roma Vs Milan

Current competition seems pretty good.

Id make Liverpool and Leverkusen favourites over us, but any of those teams could beat us on their day.

I wouldn't say clearly to be honest, it's incredibly tough to win still. If we take it seriously but we didn't even get far in domestic cups this season. We just never seem to look good in the lesser European games. Our CL performances have been better. I can't think of the last time we looked good in Europa. If Ange can change that then great but I'd still much rather play in the CL. It will also help our coefficient going forward.
