Don't forget the europe factor.
That always takes its toll and could yet play into our hands going into the final stretch. Depending on how long the teams above us stay in the UCL/Europa.

How much remains to be seen of course.

Yeah definitely this. Especially when things are tight and losing or dropping points in just one or two matches following European matches can make a big difference.

You said last season at certain points that Arsenal would win the league, and how great they were.

You probably said we'd never catch them the season before.

They've shat themselves every season from Spring onwards under Arteta. What makes you think, realistically, that they won't do the same again this season?

What makes you think, realistically, that we won't find our early season form with us having a now nearly fully fit squad?
Yeah I did say that, year before I didn’t comment as I didn’t think they were that great.
my point is this season they are also
Embedding in a new system and players and it looks to be to be hitting their stride now. I get they have had mentality issues but that has to stop at some point and big signings help with that.
I can’t predict the future no one can, I hope more than anything we recapture our form and the players coming back give us full control again but my worry is we just look way too easy to play against right now.

I just don’t see that. We looked sluggish and sloppy at times v Everton and Brighton but I wouldn’t say we looked easy to play against. I don’t think we looked easy to play against V Man U either.

We had a bit of a shocker versus Brighton at the end of last year but I can’t recall many other matches where we looked easy to play against.

We’ve only lost two of the last ten league games (including the Brighton defeat) so we can’t be that easy to play against unless we’re just super lucky?

It’s at an indicator though, especially when taken with form, our present league position, and a points comparison with the same matches last season.

Or what would you prefer people base their predictions on? Their mood when they got out of bed this morning?

I think factors like squad depth, fixture congestion and other priorities would be a good start. Or their mood. Whatever.

Most teams we’ve played against have caused us significant problems attacking wise which is what I meant. We are getting results but our attack is getting us through most of the games.
I hope we see stuff improve now players are back and getting fitter again.

Top 5 is a minimum we should be pleased with at this stage. Whatever happens I just love being in love with my club again tbh. Even if mild footballing disaster were to befall us, this first season under Ange has been a much needed culture change and gives me hope for the future.

I think we get 4th.

Agreed. If we get champions league it’s a big achievement and gives us a lot to build upon. I do think we’ll do it.

You touched in something really key here.

First 10 games = 26 points
Last 10 games = 20 points

4 game sandwiched between that = 1 point

But as we all know that was a truly desperate situation and something highly improbable.

So if you combine those 2x 10 game periods and look for an average its = 23 points

That would put us on 70 with 4 games to spare.

United would need 30 points from 14 games. So they can't drop points in more than 5 games.

Considering they have to play Newcastle, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and are away to Brighton last day, It will be very tight for them to do that.

And we still have 4 games outside of average points per 10 games (where we have not been severely depleted).

The next 5 games give us a great chance to create a good gap before the last 9.
Good finish for us Burnley and Sheffield Utd
Those 4 games were after the Chelsea game . Lost to wolves in the last minute when we were crap
Last minute point at City. Lost at home to Villa, missed loads of chances. Lost at home to West Ham when we battered them and just gave 2 goals away with daft mistakes.
Really good season even though we were ripped apart with injuries and suspensions. Just keep it going.
I have no doubt that we will.

We've got more gears in us and we're still picking up points. Loving that.

Cut out some of those silly errors as well where we're gifting goals away and our defence will massively improve.

Feeling good.

Isn't that Ange Postecoglu's whole ethic though?

I also think it’s a bit of a misperception. I have no problem with us outgunning teams but I think we’ve only scored more than two goals in a single match three times in our last ten matches.

We’ve also only conceded more than two goals in a single match just once in the last ten. In five of those ten matches we conceded one or fewer.

We don’t keep many clean sheets but neither are we having many 4-3s etc

How many of those teams have we had our best XI or even strongest squad available?

Brighton on Saturday wad the first game since we played Chelsea where all of Maddison, Van de Ven, Romero and Son have all been available.

Add in Bissouma and Sarr and you're looking at a massive part of our team.

Wolves next weekend might well be the first time we have our best XI starting since early November.

Arsenal have barely suffered one injury to any key player. Saka has missed one game. They're not implementing a new system or many new players either. Arteta has adjusted the system, and quite frankly they're awful to watch in comparison. Controlling games a bit more has only given them an extra 5 points more than us too.

There's still going to be some shock results with European play starting back up, and I wouldn't rule out 2-3 more important injuries for the top 6 right now. Hopefully we avoid more of that than the others and use our momentum to at least stay in 4th. I think we're better than that even

In terms of this season's table, I'll be disappointed if we don't finish 5th at the minimum now. Every chance United hit another slump, I'm not convinced they've "turned a corner". Every time they put a run of games together they back it up with 2-3 shit shows and Ten Haag's face is on the back of the papers again. Villa haven't looked great for about 2 months now, and have been imping along in the league. That's without having to worry about European football every Thursday.

I think we're in a great position. Trust Ange, trust the players, trust our brilliant supporters who have been magnificent this season and we'll be fine.

if we dont finish 4th i think we have messed up,

our destiny is in our own hands we have to play, Liverpool and Villa away and City and Arsenal at home, if we have aspirations we should be aiming hire than 4th

a lot of players are not fully fit after long injuries, we could go either way, o hope we pick up momentum and players get sharper and fitter.

after the injuries, suspensions and missing players we have had it’s amazing we are 4th

Yep it’ll definitely affect Villa.

It could end up out of us and Man.U for 4th.

United also have two very winnable games coming up, away to Luton (who have improved though) and home to Fulham. Which means we will need to win our next two home games to maintain that 6 point gap from them. They then face city away prior to 3 more favourable fixtures against Everton (H), Sheffield U (H) and Brentford (A). Bit similar to us, they then face a tricky April against a couple of top teams. Point is - we must capitalise on our more favourable fixtures coming up because if they smell blood, you know what that club are like, despite how crud they maybe be playing….
Luton at home have given top 4 teams a really tough game. It won't b easy for utd.

"Man United have blown the top four race wide open!" so screamed Sky Sports News this morning. So just in case I missed something, my understanding of things was that before this weekend's fixtures they were six points behind us (seven including our 15 goal advantage) and after this weekend's fixtures they are six points behind us (seven including our 15 goal advantage). So what exactly have they blown open apart from football pundit's stupid big mouths?

My concern with our form is that teams are beginning to suss out how to play against us. Hope that’s not the case and we just need our returning players to find full fitness again
