The referee has been quite lenient with tackles in this game. Think he’s taking the weather conditions into account and letting things go.

2-1 Leeds in extra time. Summerville cuts inside onto his right against Phillips and bends it in with his right foot. Great goal but I think Phillips let him cut inside to easily. Although fatigue is to blame as Summerville has only been in for about 10 minutes and Phillips has been playing the whole game in awful weather conditions.

You could criticise him for two of their goals and praise for his great assist at the back post.
He did look knackered in extra time.
He is playing on the right of a back 3 which puts him against the winger on occasions . Looks a more natural centre back best in a back 4. All good experience for him. Only 18 so a long way to go.

Looks like a little work to be done on his 1-on-1 defending, but seen experienced pros (including Toby when struggling for form) stand off attackers to the point they would end up in the back of the net before putting in a challenge if it came to it.

Same again at Sunderland, got turned round for their 3rd goal. First move is to back off the player with the ball. Plenty of time to improve though.

My type of CB this lad. 18 years old, Christ.
Physically he’s exceptional, imposes himself well in duels whether it be in the high in the channels or low in the block. Old-school ‘clear your lines’ defender, sweeps up loose balls and wins a large % of his duels (ground & aerials).
Being trusted to play RCB in a 3 in the Championship says enough about his ability to defend the high/wide spaces and as we know for an Ange team in their 2-3 build-up this is Criteria 1 when scouting a CB for his teams. Can see why he’s picked up Van Dijk comparisons because their similar physical profile and the way he defends space rather than the man.
And whilst he has the athleticism to defend the channels to this level his anticipation, box defending and intelligence in lower defensive scenarios is well beyond his years. Partner that defensive sharpness with his freakishly long legs and 6’4ft stature and you’ve got a WC CB prospect.
I would say, his ball-playing needs work especially against a higher press/finding the first line-breaker but he has pretty fast manipulation of the ball in tighter spaces and has a good enough eye to pick a pass out, especially at range but this will only improve as he develops and there’s no better place to do it than the Championship.
TOP prospect.

Struggled in the wide spaces against Gnonto. Couldn’t cope with Him. He is very tall and gangly .Not suited to right of a 3. Too much one on one with tricky wingers. In a back 3 the best players on each side are usually those who can also play full back. If he’s fit for Saturday he’s got Gnonto again so we’ll see how much he has learned. Looks like Ian Foster has agreed with you as Phillips is now in the middle of the back three instead of the right. Seems to better suited going up against Piroe then Gnonto or Summerville.

That was a good centre forward finish. Not sure what he was trying to do as a defender though

Certainly looks better in the middle of a back 3. Turning into Eric Dier for their second goal. Back off and back off. Go on then have a shot, and he did.

Georginio is a very skilful player. Especially in the championship but yeah you would have hoped he’d be a bit more aggressive and come out and tackle him instead of backing off.
