His pace was the only concern the city back 4 had . As soon as he went off we lost any forward momentum , not saying he was great but he was our only threat and with the game getting more stretched kulu couldn’t get us up the pitch and we looked worse with him on the right . Need to get a win Wednesday night .

Has no confidence in what he's doing, should just keep it simple and burn the full back down the line at times. Doesn't like a tackle, puts his toe in like he's testing the water. Still not convinced with him at all

Wonder how he would do playing through the middle
Trouble with that is you’ve got Son and Richy who at the moment are both better in the middle than out wide.
He was played through the middle quite often at Forest in a team that was more counter attacking so he didn’t have to think too much, just had to run and shoot.
It’s not like he hasn’t played in front of big crowds before either, he’s done the WC and Euros with Wales and been in the PL for a couple of seasons now so I’d say it’s got to be a confidence issue as he was quality at Forest.

It's funny when you see him clean out Richarlison but he's not like it at all. Almost like the player Dele was at the end and not early on. Seems a bit of doubt like he isn't sure he's at this level. The Sess mentality.
This is what worries me.

There’s was one moment where he received the ball back to goal against Gvardiol and yet held him off and turned towards the middle of the box, that was good play and need to see more strength like this from him

but then he didn’t know wat to do next, and iirc we recycled the ball back to our cb

his linking up with Porro and Bentacur and Richie was also quite non existent unfortunately

The one time he really tried something different, and he did it perfectly.

I don't care if his execution in things isn't perfect, or he loses the ball a bit – as long as he is trying this. Give him time and he will grow into it. We can all see there is quality there.

What worries me is, as many others also point out, the passiveness and reactiveness. Failing to be on your toes as much as he is at the moment, when one of of your strengths is your movement, is not great.

Him failing to see even notice the many runs Werner made is another worry.

If he can work on his awareness in some way, he will definitely come good.

No wonder the kid is lacking confidence the stick he’s getting here and on other social media. We all want kids in the team but aren’t willing to give them time to grow and develop. Theres a player in there who is feeding off scraps. Seems to have become the new scapegoat now Skipps not being selected. I watched him for a full season and am confident he has ‘it’ and will come good

People on here are not posting comments that are unjustified. He has had the odd flashes of quality, but generally he has flattered to deceive. We were expecting much more given the hype surrounding him.
I’m sure 100% of fans want him to succeed here, but he really needs to step up.

I agree with absolutely everything here, BUT (I'm sorry) I feel like the criticism started because of his lack of confidence, not the other way around. And that is a genuine worry for me.

But just vomiting all over him without any sort of nuance is of course not helpful to anyone.

I think we need to remember that if not for injuries etc, he'd probably be an impact sub this season. Coming on late in games and running at tired defences, while learning the system and his team mates.

He's been thrust into the spotlight with a large fee hanging over him, so I'm not going to be too critical just yet.
However, he could do with more aggression, more fire and fight in his belly.

😂 I’ve read some rubbish on here but this really takes the biscuit. What a great young player we have here on our books and all you Gary Neville’s out there can only see the bad in him. Pathetic doesn’t quite cover it 😂😂

In the stadium too - lots of groans and moans with every poor touch / error.
The jury has always been out on him for me but while he’s pulling on the shirt I’ll support him in the stadium 100%.

I still think it’s very fair to raise legitimate concerns about him as a player on here though.

Surely there’s a name for the unfair assessment of a player purely based on the price paid for them. No way he cops this if he was as cheap as our other signings

I've read this a few times and I'm not sure I agree. Ange has shown he is happy to throw players in early and I just don't see us paying this amount of cash for a prospect. If he were £15m then I can see we treat him like Gill and slowly integrate him but for £45M + not so much.

I do agree that he's new to the team and there has been a lot of churn with injuries and suspensions but I'd be lying if I said the comparisons to Sess in terms of mentality aren't a concern.
