Too many people trying to get a gig on Sky Sports News :D

"Last night's match was a tactical showcase blending classic old school Catenaccio with modern Gegenpress. The regista controlled the game from deep, while the trequartista and false nine created chaos upfront. The mezzala added width, resembling an inside forward. Inverted deep-lying inverted wingers and a roaming playmaker kept the opposition guessing. The libero, doubling as a ball-playing defender, added a retro touch. The link-up play was elevated by the overlapping full-backs and the tiki-taka elements across our box midfield made it a tactical masterclass, all while echoing Total Football principles. The team’s pivot in the midfield triangle was key, and the utilisation of a pressing trigger disrupted the opposition's build-up. Absolutely brilliant."

I mean, analysts, coaches etc in the professional game do actually use '6's, '8s' and terms like 'breaking the lines'. I was on a course the other week, delivered by people working for big clubs, and they were adament it is important to use these phrases.

Don't understand why it's a big issue?
It isn't a big issue mate, just some people having a laugh at forum fans sounding all technical.

It is a big issue. 6’s are specialist roles. I know you coach and other things. And I can certainly concur with those I talk to in the game that 6’s sre unique in skill sets and attributes.

I'm sorry but I have almost no idea what people are banging on about with this Numberwang malarkey.

Can someone please educate me and every other normal person for whom this latest fad has passed by with a breakdown?

I mean, we’re not completely unaware, we know number one is a goalie :D

But come on, fucking hell, this is just the latest hipster bollocks really isn’t it and the trouble with it is, ‘normals’ don’t have a clue what you’re on about 🤪 ;)

Yeah but that's not the point I was raising

Gallagher is a good fit for Ange, and I think he'd be a good buy at 40 million.

He is a 30 million player, but with a HG premium. We have to pay that premium across the squad at some point, and he ticks a lot of boxes.

I also think if Chelsea do let him go it would be pretty ridiculous for a player who is Chelsea through and through. Considering what he has given their team this season I'd be pretty pissed off if I were him that they haven't put a decent package on the table, let alone that they are considering selling him.

If they let him go to a local rival he will be very intent on proving them wrong and he has the right mentality to do just that. Still can't see it happening, but if it did, it would very much work in our favour IMO.

Because the vast majority of people aren't technical or don't have access to that sort of thing. And even more to the point, don't really understand it. I know I haven't really got a clue and as sure as shit I don't care about learning it. I can use words instead :D

So, you're speaking a different language really, it's just the latest 'thing', one day it'll be something else and this 6 and 8 bollocks will be nothing but a number on a bingo card, a bit like this pivot rubbish and a whole heap of other stuff :D

Fair enough. I get that. But it is geuninely used by coaches, analysts and such in the game and they use it to make things easier, as opposed to using more words.

If an analyst is writing some info down for a coach, he will want to use 'GK into the 6 and through the lines'.

I scout (and teach English to coaches, analysts) so I have to use this jargon and because we have Spanish, German, Italian coaches at the top of the game, it has kind of become its own language, and these coaches universally speak it.

I totally get that the majority of people can't be doing with that, I certainly wouldn't use it with my mates at the pub. But if I am getting down to tactics with someone or working, then I will use it cause they would likely be on the same page.

I am only saying this because it seems to be a belief that it is tosh and just made up nonsense, but it isn't, it is geuninely used in the game.

Fans of course, will take differently to it. So I suppose it is really about who you are talking to.

You may find all that boring but I thought I'd share.

Not me. 6 was always a centre back and 4 was the defensive midfielder when I played. Bloody whipper snappers!
And 6 in Brazil is the left-back so even more confusing.

I actually think a lot of it comes from the continent (Spain, Portugal)

6 =defensive midfielder or ball playing deep lying playmaker
8 =box to box midfielder
10 =creative attacking free role higher up midfielder

Simples 😊

I'm sorry but do the other positions not have a place in this? Is this not a bit numberist? :cautious:
Well letters are too complicated so what we thinking should we use sounds instead?
A quiet stealth fart represents a Xavi Alonso
A loud ripper a Roy Keane
A muffled squeak a Van Der Vaart

It's a niche thing then.

PS: You're never boring. Well, almost never :D

Steve Perryman wore 6...don't know if that means anything.
