I can’t believe so many of you are in favour of this signing. He’s a Chelsea lad and you can see he doesn’t want to leave. It just wouldn’t feel right for him to end up here.

We can argue about valuation all day, but since Ange has come in I've seen it mentioned in various posts and articles that it seems he absolutely wants CG. If Ange is desperate for him to come in and we want to back him, shouldn't the fee be irrelevant?

I know it's unlikely we spend that much on him but if we do, isn't that another good sign that Ange and the club are on the same page?

No, the fee isn't irrelevant, you still need value in the purchase and to be disciplined within the structure we're working within.

This or another CM has to be the priority now but can see it going late in the window and/or if/once we accept a deal for PEH.

Sell Hojbjerg for £20m, Skipp for £10m and bring Gallagher in for £35m covers both and fits in better for us. Easy this football malarkey

Over the course of what remains of this window and then the summer window we should be actively trying to raise enough cash by selling PEH, Skipp, GLC, Reguilon, Spence, Rodon, Gil and Sessignon to purchase Gallagher and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Biss / Bentancur
Gallagher/ Sarr
MGW / Maddison

That's some options in midfield.

Fully respect your view as I know it’s based on a lot more than most of us will know and look at but can I ask why you don’t rate him highly and don’t think he would fit?
We need a number 6, and he is not that! He is not better than Maddison, Benny, Biss, Devine, (soon to be Donley) and in our system that’s where he plays. Then add Kulu unto that. Only plus is he is better than Skipp

Is he a Chelsea fan and Chelsea lad or just came through their academy?

EARLY YEARS

Born in Epsom, Surrey, to a sporting family, Gallagher was surrounded by football from a young age. A Chelsea fan like his older brothers, he lived within 10 minutes of the Cobham training ground and joined the club’s Academy at the age of eight.
His brothers both played the game, going on to have careers at non-league level while Gallagher progressed through the Blues’ youth ranks.

Decent player, but not sure he’s what’s needed.

Think we’re crying out for another AM, but not sure we’ll get them this month.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining, see a lot of people want players because they want signings or want a player because they see them as high profile but nice to have it explained why they just don’t fit

Chelsea need to pick up the phone and call think they might get twitchy as the days go ahead towards the deadline. We have set our stool with this and they know we can do this deal !

Vicario
Porro
Romero
Van De Ven
Udogie
Bentancur
Gallagher
Maddison
Kulusevski
Werner
Son

Dragusin, Davies, Royal, Bissouma, Sarr, Johnson, Richarlison, Solomon, Veliz...9 squad players that have a lot weight behind them to impact a game. I'd definitely make a deal if its around £40m

He is not better than Devine and Donley? Come on that's absolutely daft talk.

I'm not so sure we are now with Werner here and Soloman near to a return. It allows us to play Kulusevski central and of course Maddison will be back soon. I think we need a forward more than an attacking midfielder. Although we have half a season to see how Werner does in his audition.

We have Kulusevski, Lo Celso and Maddison who can cover the AM position. What we really need is a good rotation option for Sarr who isn't Hojberg or Skipp. Gallagher would give us that and I think he would be very good.

We have Biss and Bentancur for the 6 position, we have Maddison and GLC for the advance 8/10 role (and eventually Deki it seems too once we sort out another winger) but we only have Sarr for the traditional 8 box-to-box role. That's where the strengthening needs to happen, not at 6.

I think many are blinded by judging his performances as a 10/6, neither of which he plays naturally, and also an understandable anti-Chelsea player bias. Truly believe if he'd been permanently at Palace playing as an 8 since his loan there we'd all be salivating at the prospect of getting him now.

In a a truly mediocre Chelsea team playing often out of position, Gallagher is statistically one of the most well-rounded and dynamic midfielders in the world. Not only that, his three greatest strengths are built for Ange's style of football:
  1. Quick vertical ball progression through carrying/passing
  2. Speed and aggressive pressing
  3. Late arriving runs into opponents box to finish moves and comfortable with the ball at his feet in that position.
Below £45mil for a HG option who plays the manager's system perfectly and is prem proven is a no brainer for me.

I think he's a much higher quality player than many on here give him credit for, and he's only going to get better. A tenacious fucker too.

Don't anticipate seeing him in a Spurs shirt, to be honest, but stranger things have happened.
