I do wonder if Veliz getting injured plus Utd interest changed our thinking. Jota and Nusa are a very different profile to Werner.
Just the thought of Werner running in behind a high line of Davies and Royal for Utd was probably enough to think sod, we’ll cock block them

I hope everyone joins me in giving him time to settle before making any judgements.

I will be giving him until his first shot, at which point I will then make a permanent and irrevocable decision about whether he was a good signing or not.

Fence-sitter. The right look of malice and determination on his face in the tunnel or GTFO.

In all seriousness I think him scoring early could be vital to his success here given his reputation for big misses, needs the confidence and quickly

He’s gonna be exciting and frustrating I think . But if it don’t work out he goes back the risk is minimal as long as he doesn’t miss sitter after sitter I think he will do well

Personally think he is the sort of player we will love but time will tell

Only just seeing this news now. I'm excited. We lack explosive pace in attack and this guy has it. Cracking option for us imo.

I’ll be drawing my cast iron conclusions based solely on his body language in the tunnel at Anfield.

I don’t care how he plays, his pressing, ball progression, final third production.

If he leans against that wall funny then I’ll take it as a personal affront to the resting spirit of Danny Blanchflower, and shall instigate organised protest accordingly.

I like this on a 6 month loan, very little downside and about as good as we can expect in January really. One of those signings that could look like a stroke of genius if it clicks and he thrives under Ange, amd if it doesn't then we send him back and haven't really lost anything.

Paraphrasing Romano from the Here We Go Podcast - it took a few minutes to convince Werner to sign. He is super excited to play Ange's style of football and Ange really wanted him.

I don't doubt his work off the ball and his fit for the general style of play for the team. He works hard, can press well, can excel when countering/in transition, has good movement off the ball and is a very good athlete so he fits the style of player mould very well. But on the ball and in front of goal he can be a nightmare and those bad games make you wonder how the hell he's actually a professional player. There was a game vs Zenit years ago where he looked okay and then he completely miscontrolled a pass and it went out for a throw. If people are frustrated with Rich not finishing chances then you're going to pull your hair out watching this guy, the only player that comes close in that regard in very recent times for them has been Jackson and he's been terrible. That is if he can stay on side in the first place. I generally don't like these but apparently for chelsea in the league he had 7 goals from 16.77 xg at that point in his 2 seasons, which pretty much means you're dog water if you only score 0.4x what the average player "should" score

He's like a Lucas and Adama Traore type of player - he clearly has something about him but puts it together in maybe 1/5 games that gives you hope and think "if he can do that more consistently he's a world beater" and the other 4/5 wondering how he can play so well in those 1/5 games. If you can make him click he's transformative, if not you can't get him out of there quick enough. 6 month loan with a cheap option is fair and low risk but I'm not expecting him to put it all together magically out of nowhere

Hehe the Lucas and Adama comparison made me laugh. Werner has over 150 goal contributions in the Bundesliga and Premier League. If you think he has the end product of those two you are in for a treat!

With regards to expected goals, it is true that he had a very tough finishing spell at Chelsea, especially in his first season but that is not true for his entire career.

Take Jesus at Arsenal who is on course for his 8th consecutive season with underperforming his xG. He is the inverse of Son when it comes to finishing.

Werner had one terrible finishing season at Chelsea and if you remove that season he has matched his xG exactly during his career. Scoring 102 goals from an xG of 102.05 (data taken from understat.com).

I don’t think he’ll miss as many sitters as Richy. However as spurs fans, any striker that isn’t deadly like Kane seems disappointing.
