From the Express (I know)

'United’s debts had soared to a substantial £778m in 2010, but by the end of 2014 it had dropped to £380.5m and is now down to £254m'

Bit more from swiss ramble. On utds debt. Over £400m on interest and just £250m on actual repayments.

I believe that their original debt was cut due to the share issue (listing on the ny stock exchange). They then had a £400m bond issue. Didn't realise this had been cut down.
My understanding of the United situation early glaziers was they borrowed to buy the club then took a loan as the club to pay themselves back effectively buying the club with the club's money. Since when they have spent nothing on the stadium which I guess is sort of relevant to this thread.

The relevance is that we are looking at a bond issue similar to theirs, to refinance the stadium.

Anyone else think we built the stadium about 8-10k too small?

It’s so incredibly difficult to get tickets even for televised games against awful opposition.

I really hope we have already planned for its expansion.

It’s obviously going to be difficult this season. It’s the first full season at the ground.

I doubt we'd have got the permission to build it any bigger....the transport infrastructure is crap as it is.

We'd also have to take the entire roof off in order to expand it but such an amount, which just wouldn't happen.

We'd probably be running into similar issues if we had larger capacity, you're just gonna wait until the novelty wears off a little so more tickets become available.

Its already been said there will be NO expansion, the stadium isn't designed to be expanded and the planning permission I believe limited the numbers already. Any bigger means moving.

I mean they squeezed in a couple of hundred extra seats, surely room for more at the top of the south ?

I honestly dont think it will, Wembley is a nightmare of a stadium to get there and back from and we were well over 62,000 on average there.

Thanks for the info. The stadium is fantastic but that is a mistake imho. It is too small.

The stands are already at the max rake allowed, so in order to go up, you'd have to go out and there's no room to do that either, so again it would mean moving site. They've achieved the best they could within the restrictions of location.

Well, you can have stands stacked on top of each other and the rake of the Kop is pretty mellow near the pitch although I accept they designed in some safe standing that you wouldn’t want to be too steep.

Being an engineer myself (although not civil) I don’t accept it is impossible, it clearly isn’t, although I do see we’re pinned in by the roads on each side so there is a challenge there.

Anyway irrelevant if they’ve already stated there is going to be no expansion.

We have the most steep gradient of any modern stadium though don't we? Not sure if planning rules would have allowed us to go steeper or higher. Being that close to the reservoir s i doubt we could have dug down much without disturbing the water table.

But i have no expertise so will bow to anyone with superior knowledge.
